Hmm... Maybe they did the S/C model differently for that reason.

I know I never saw one with a CEL from just the knock sensor. The code would be in the computer, but no light. That said, there weren't many S/C models coming through the shop.

The knock sensor didn't throw the code, it was the o2 getting wrong reading from the extra air getting in the the exhaust from the cracks on the manifold.

I think I worded my question wrong.

Is the increase in cost for premium fuel on the SC version worth it, or would you get a non SC version.

40hp goes a long way. It's the only way I'd take it even I'd I were to do it over again. It's worth it to me to pay a few bucks more in gas for the power. People ask all the time, you put a s/c on your x?!?! Few people know that some came out if the box like that.

On a side note, s/c x came with 17" wheels. I'll hafta take a pic or two I'm the morning.

Yeah, I have researched all about the differences, but the requirement of premium fuel is the one that I payed the most attention to.

I'd probably look at a Toyota before getting a Nissan, but I'm biased since I own a Hilux. Anyways one of my buddies has a 2003 Xterra 3.3l with a 5spd. He beats on it daily and it hasn't caused any problems. It has 14x,xxx miles and all it's needed is basic maintenance, a clutch change, and a new intake boot. Id only recommend a first gen with a manual. My other buddy has a second gen and he got the milkshake of death (Google it). Heres a picture of by buddies first gen.

Looking at a 2nd gen manual with a factory warranty installed new motor, clutch and it has leather interior.

What the hell would Cause a needed replacement motor on a truck with 70k miles? Motor has 8k miles on it now, with factory warranty.

Anyone?

A pre 2005 xterra would be me my last choice in a SUV that 3.3 v6 is such a turd

I would get a Toyota, Jeep, Tahoe, Expedition instead

Id recommend it, only a few issue from what ive seen, We took a 2009 one out to escalante national park a couple years ago and it powers through sand with the little v6, and i bet even better with the v8.

Took a long time, but I finally found one that met my standards.

JUST had the tranny, rad, etc replaced under warranty by Nissan after the milkshake failure at 65,000 miles. Tranny an all warrantied untill July 2015

One owner, full service history, owned by a car guy.
