I have been listening to a lot of trance, electro house and breakbeat lately and I am seriously considering buying some tables and learning how to spin. Does anybody else here spin records?

I thought about it a long time ago, but I wasn't ready to make the investment into equipment like that. It's a lot of expensive equipment. The BMW 318 is back. With a vengeance.Comment

Yea. If you have a freind with tables, play with them for a while. See if you can get beat matching down.
Wait to see if you'll really be interested. I've seen a lot of peeps spend money, buy tables, then sell them months later because they lost interest.
And there are how-too books and stuff. http://www.topdjgear.com/books.html
But it's like riding a bike, cant really read it, gotta do it. Put time in.Comment

E30 Wagen
I was very interested in DJing a while ago, and am still very interested. However, I was stupid then and wasted a lot of money on expensive records and never actually getting some tables to play them with (ended up with an e30 instead).
The way I should have done it, and if you're really interested, is to find some guy on ebay selling his collection of ~50 records for $100, and some cheap, used turntables and mixer for maybe $300 and learn play with that. Idiot me, I ended up spending about $300 alone on a little over a dozen records (though a couple were very rare and collectible sets).Comment

I'm an aspiring DJ... I have lots of DJ on my hd, some names are DJ karpin, DJ kultur, sasha, sammy... trance, breakbeat are my primary styles. I really want to spin, but as it was stated here many times, it's kinda expensive. There was a set on ebay once, $800 for a mixer and one table.sigpicComment

At this point, I have the money to spend on tables and a mixer. I already have an amp and speakers. I also have a friend who spins and he said he would show me how to do it. I think I am gonna do it.Comment

Tom, one of my best freinds is well regarded as the best techno DJ is the PNW. wanna learn about spinning techno. www.nwtekno.org <--- check out seattle raves, a fair amount of good dj's there, the scene down in portland is smaller, but check out DJ Wiggles if you wanna hear the best funky house on the west coast. check out my myspace profile look for him in my freinds, then look at his party anouncements.Comment

Techno here. Been playing with dirty ghetto tech lately. Grindy.
Some of my freinds have given up their records for CDs. I was against it at first, but its a helluva lot more convenient. The groove is starting to wear out on some of my older records; they dont sound as good anymore. And there's waaay more flexibility with digital media. And then there's Ableton...
Cept for Final Scratch, there's just no feel like vinyl.Comment
