Do it!! I had a '77 Spitfire for two years and loved that thing. Easy to work on and great availability of parts. With any car of this vintage, just watch out for rust.

I think they're cool. And TR6s and TR250s and all of them. My wife, in high school, drive a neighbor's old TR4 to work all summer. She didn't know how to put the top up, so it just stayed down all summer.

BUT, back when I was tracking down Austin Healey and Alfa parts at a specialty yard in Seattle, nearly every Triumph on the racks had burned. Electrical fires.

Do some homework and make it safe.Comment

Have you driven any other Triumphs of the same era? The older british sports cars are fun but obviously not even close to performance of the E30. 4 speeds revving out at highway speeds, handling and brakes that leave a bit to be desired when pushed.

I have a Triumph TR2 handed down from my father that is restored to a reliable driver level. It is cool but I really think it would go before the E30 if forced to choose.

The E30 has the small sports car feel with modern power, brakes, and comfort - hard to improve on for the money I think.

Do you work on your own cars?

This is a real nice friendly forum for all British stuff...

And there is the Vintage Triumph Registry...

I drove my fathers Spitfire a few times before he sold it. Don't remember much expect the unpowered dry steering took a little muscle and the driving position felt a little odd. But then again I was 17 so I didn't know much anyway. My e30 is swapped and coiled and handles like a go cart so I can't really expect anything from that era to compare.

Ya I do all of my own work except where I need really expensive tools like alignment racks and diagnostic computers. My father has a lot of experience with them as well so he can probably help me out.Your signature picture has been removed since it contained the Photobucket "upgrade your account" image.Comment

My MGB with stock original suspension handles about as well as an e30 with IE3's and Koni's.

That being said, an MGB can be setup to handle VERY well. I don't know what is available for GT6's, but I'm sure they are similar.Comment

I've never owned one, or known anyone who owns one, but it seems about as good an idea as giving Magic Johnson a BJ in a Syrian minefield. For all things 24v, check out Markert Motorworks!Originally posted by mbonanniI hate modded emtree, I hate modded cawrz, I hate jdm, I hate swag, I hate stanceyolokids, I hate bags (on cars), I hate stuff that is slowz, I hate tires.
