I Want to Buy a Bus

    Why not?

Years ago I used to work for the school district by my hometown and while installing video surveillance in one of the service bays I noticed how awesome buses are underneath. I always wanted one to make a camper. Never did I think to do more with one until...

Yesterday on my way to Dallas we saw a flat nose school bus with the rear 1/3 converted into a flat bed with a mud/crawler/jeep project on it. On the inside they had bunks and a full bathroom.

    How bad ass?

Now I do no have pictures of what I saw yesterday but I have found some interesting ones I'll post.

    interior examples

Now this is something I'd actually do. If not to convert and throw money at, then at least as a large storage that I can move around.

How awesome would it be to have a bus for motor sports? Motocross?

I had a couple of friends that had one with bunks, wood burning stove, and a full bath. It was basically an rv. Interesting times were had.

Do it! Most of those interiors look like an Ikea catalog, can't be that expensive.

Thinking you are going to want some insulation. That is the major difference between a school bus and a 500K+ Totter, plus the modern chassis. School bus is a large box truck basically, modern totter homes are far more elaborate with self leveling and so forth.

If your gonna get one look for a diesel.

I'm a woodworker. Always wanted to get an old airstream shell and then build a custom interior. I say go for it!

I have been motor home shopping for about 18 months now, 1st off how much money are you looking to have in this thing all said and done. Your going to be somewhere in the 15k range getting a old school bus in good shape to get started working on. You might consider a real motor home from the 80's or early 90's Like a wanderlodge or Newell or MCI converson and go from there. The pop up from mid 20's to low 50's a lot.

here is a very nice late 80s Pusher with a Tag axle

and a very nice PT 40' Wide Body from 1990. I have really considered this one, but it has some draw backs for my application for long winter stints in it

Steve if your seriouslly shopping for a real Motorhome this is the place for you. I look here for new listings almost every day, I am just waiting for the right coach to pop up.

Considering you're driving a house with wheels and getting 12mpg and my old Cherokee I had got 14mpg, that's not bad at all. Nice rig btw!
