    Subaru WRX STI help

Hey.. Long time lurker.. very rarely post.. and I'm not really active on any forums to ask questions like this.. Not really in the market for a car.. But, stumbled on an STI A couple weeks ago that was a half decent price.. The car is 30 mins away from me.. anyway.. Buddy has an ad up asking 20k for the car.. so i contact him.. look at the car.. he tells me its got a rebuilt title.. so.. I get the vin and do a carproof..http://reports.carproof.com/main?id=...35iMhUaQ%3d%3d

theres the car proof if anyone wants to take a look..
The car looks straight.. paint looks good. everything lines up.. runs great.. its an american car.. i think its got 50k miles.. buddy has a turbo back exhaust... and a tuner programmer... which is worth around 4 grand all together.. brand new tires.. umm.. i dunno what else i could be forgetting.. anyways.. the guy that wants to sell, needs to move it quick..so he keeps dropping his price.. he told me he would take 15k for it, when i said maybe, he told me to make another offer.. which leads me to believe i could low ball him way less..
Anyway.. Should i steer clear of this car cause its rebuilt? any advice would be great.. thanks..

    EDIT.. This is canadian dollars..

      Even if he posts pics,

Best take it to a body shop or someone who can assess where the damage was and how well it was fixed.

It's kind of odd that he's asking 20k.. And at 15k offer he says to go lower...so he's looking closer to 10-15k. That alone seems weird to me

like i said.. he was asking 20 k on his for sale ad.. he says thats what he paid for it.. put a few grand into it with the tuner thing, and the exhaust.. he has his ad down to 18k now.. i think he is having a hard time selling with it having a rebuilt title.. so yea.. best pictures i could get.. should i stay away? any advice would be great..

i wouldn't buy a car with a rebuilt title personally unless it cost less than a couple grand.

even if it is a good deal, you will have a hard time reselling it when the time comes.

I would wait for something else. Plenty of cars with good titles

Subaru is not hard to work on, my ex of 5.5 years had a 2.2 outback sport. Her brother had a WRX. Both easy to work on(unless you do the heads). The only issue with a head gasket, is how the flat 4s bolt up. Gravity works against you with lining it up.

I personally don't mind them, the glass transmissions suck though. I do not have knowledge on the models with that issue. Personally, for that much money I would get an e30 M3. Also a base model e30 + that amount of cash could make one amazing car for half the cost.

These 6spd's are anything but glass, the older 5's were known to have issues when you put them above 300whp, but the STI's six is pretty bulletproof.

I would avoid this one though simply because it's American and it's got a rebuilt title, although those are not factors which bother everyone. Have a Subaru specific mechanic give it a solid inspection and leak down and go from there. There are some very nice local cars that pop up on NASIOC's VIC board from time to time as well. Keep in mind that these cars are usually driven pretty hard, and although they're built to take the occasional thrashing they do break. The benefit of buying a cheap one may come to bite you in the ass the moment you have to replace a major component, negating any savings you made with a cheaper purchase.

Rebuilt title + brand new tires means it eats tires in my book.

But if I can't constantly do 5k rpm clutch drops in 1st, it's obviously not a good transmission.
