We make .30% of what we do and that works out very well for me.

most of the other drivers get the 30% deal, but since im a full time employee i drive trucks during the day when its busy and also after hours in the evening so yeah its 9$ an hour during the day, but if i drive after hours i will transfer to the commission of 30%.

I had a hard time living making $10 an hour, that's for sure.

    Edit:

Also I have been a tow operator on the side since 07. It's fun sometimes, the hours however are not.
i have done HVAC with my family and made 13 an hour, but got laid off and then got this job out of desperation for work, and my previous job hired another guy so theres no going back to HVAC. i wish i could move back to washington. but that will probably never happen unless i had a job lined up first.

and the worst part about this whole this is... i have enough money in my account to quit now and survive winter or until i find another job, but my e30 is in storage in my bosses garage, behind a boat. so if i quit now.. he would make it hell for me to get my car back. basically just charge me an outrageous storage fee.
so i am forced to stick it out this winter, and as soon as i get my car back ill tell him im leaving.. lol
but who knows maybe ill turn out to love driving trucks once i start doing it more. only time will tell.

Well if you do ed up liking the job, keep doing it for where your at. When you get a little more proficient at it, tell your boss when your on calls with the truck you want your 30% no matter the time of day, and will take your hourly when not in the truck. Next if you seem to like it, then stick with it where you are though NEXT winter, and save your pennies.

Look into the licensing and regulatory environment in PNW, and buy your own truck and start your own small towing business, good wrecker drivers that give a shit type car people are hard to come by. With 2 years of northern MI experience and 2 winter seasons, you should be set for the easier PNW climate.

well ive been doing alot of calls lately, mostly with the flatbed and winching people out of snowbanks. i can honestly say its better then i thought it was going to be. i do enjoy not being in the shop all day.

so today i got called to get a kid out of the snowbank and this is what i came upon. it was pretty funny.
apparently the road drifted across so he had to abandon his vehicle, and in the morning when the plow went by it buried it completely.

forgive the photos, my phone is a potato.

This pleases me. Kid REALLY should've known better.

Where was this? Between Calumet and Houghton?

So south of Houghton. Very nice! This recent snow is like concrete. I'm having a HELL of a time moving it around, and have said "Fuck this" for the night.

Betchya he was stuck in there REAL good.

yeah its crazy how dense it is. youd think it would be like powder and be easy to move. shoveling my driveway has been a lost cause too. i need to steal my bosses plow truck and clean it up.

but yeah i had both winch cables in use for just in case because ive never seen someone stuck like that. it was a funny sight to see.

Spring is nowhere near around the corner for us.
