Who cares, N54 is the biggest steaming pile of an engine BMW has ever made.

Its not an aftermarket dash. Its an E9x one you'd normally find in the car with the same engine.Just a little project im working on

The fact that it's the stock dash is what tells me that they've probably done a full harness and module transplant. Which is why I'm not that impressed/interested. It's a lot of work and a giant pain in the ass, but it also means that you're stuck with all that E90 electronic shit in the car.2006 GMC Sierra 2500HD 4WD LBZ/Allison

From a technical standpoint, that is what is interesting for my part, integrating all those systems into a car that would have basically been a blank page. At the end of the day you have the current version of EWS (called CAS) to deal with, which at the moment I haven't heard of anyone offering any work arounds. There are still EWS equipped vehicles out there which don't have a reflash for ews delete, so unless you plan to go aftermarket, the only way to get these engines running is going to be with a complete swap of everything. That's pretty nuts to contemplate doing and actually getting it working, regardless of who did the work in the end (the owner or paying someone). The fact that it's the stock dash is what tells me that they've probably done a full harness and module transplant. That's a very impressive garage-level swap no doubt, even if it is a full donor transplant. The CAS system alone should have been enough to keep this from ever working.

The most impressive to me still has to be the S85 into that M3 though, even if it was a blank-cheque build.Last edited by Raxe; 01-06-2014, 08:03 PM.Comment

Not impressed. Every light is on in the cluster, so they probably just hooked it up to get it running (sounds open header) and made the video. If you've had to work on these cars enough, its not that hard to swap a harness and a few modules to get it running. Like someone else said...I'll be impressed when its done clean and legit, not some half-ass body shop job.

Its still a semi-meh motor anyways. Lets see: water pump/thermostat, cams, carbon build up, turbos, any vacuum line, any plastic boost pipe, valve cover, and most gaskets are crap....nah i'll pass Comment

Yep, these N motors are certainly less reliable than one would expect from a BMW. I'd take a boosted M54 over the N54 each and every time.Comment
