    Dish VS Direct Tv

    Hey R3v,

Just bought a new house, and comcast/ixfinity doesnt work out there. So I have to get Dish or Direct TV. Who do you recommend? I already got internet, so this would be for TV only.

Saw that Direct TV is a bit more, but is it worth it?

    Never had satellite before, thanks!

Direct TV all he way. I've had both and Dish sucks ! My Daughter just dropped Dish. They want her to return the boxes AND pull the eye on the dish on the roof. They are also charging her $17 for shipping the stuff back. Direct only asks for the box and do not charge shipping.

I don't like either. I had dish, got direct because everybody says it's better. Shit sucks, have to reset the box multiple times a week, when one box screws up they all do (genie setup). Whenever we get a thunder storm or heavy rain/snow we get no signal.... What do you like to do when it's raining?

The delay between channels/freezing on channels you don't get is a pain in the ass. If you have to call for trouble shooting you have to go through some dumb automated process every time before you can get a real person. On average it is a 30 minute call every time I have to call.

I'm going back to cable in the future when the contract is up.

Feel free to use my account as a reference if you do decide on direct, it will save us both an additional $10 a month on our bill. The # is 058402594

I have DirecTV and don't have the issues mentioned here with the exception of occasionally (seldom) losing signal when a severe electrical storm is to my immediate southwest, or when we get enough snow on the dish to require brushing it off (which is about once per decade). The delay between channels is partially a function of your TV. I just bought a new one and changing channels is noticeably faster then on any of my older ones.

The guide, as well as the channel/menu navigation functions on DirecTV are one of the things I like best about it. That functionality on Knology, Charter and Cox is terrible.

Dropped Direct TV 6 years ago now for an IP based solution. Been one of the best things I've done since purchasing my own home. The wife and I watch all that we could want via Netflix/Hulu/Plex. In several cases before the shows even air on US networks. (Wife and I finished season 3 of Sherlock last night yet it doesn't premier here until the 19th)

their older HD boxes are like watching paint dry when turning channels but the new boxes(which you would get since your a new customer) are instant we have an old box in our living room and it sucks but all the other rooms are on the genie and its really quick

I have Dish and have never had an issue. I live in Boise though and we don't have very much weather to speak of.

i've had both, went back to DirecTv to save about $40/month from Dish, after i went to Dish to save over DirecTv about 2 years ago.
the user interface on DirecTv is better, but the actual operation sucks.
Dish has a better quality picture, but the equipment sucks.
My goal is to get rid of both, and not go back to cable, and to piece meal it over the interwebz plus have an over-the-air high def antenna for local channels (wife loves Wheel of Fortune).
now that F1 has gone to NBC sports and i can stream it to my big screen live a big hurdle has been solved.

If you don't have a bandwidth cap on your internet and it is at least 5mpbs, I vote for internet based service. Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime etc will be a lot better than cable or dish. For one, with some services, you only pay for what you watch instead of paying a monthly fee for a bunch of channels you never watch.
