That sucks. We've had a few here locally where teens have gotten on the tracks and been killed. Took a few weeks for one girl to be ID'd.
I cross tracks every day to get home or go anywhere, really. One day they were doing maintenance on the tracks or switches or something and the guy parked his truck on the switch for the crossing gates. This closed the gates for a very long period of time before someone noticed. Backed traffic up like a mother. There is a Hollister and Hershey Chocolate plant that you have to cross the tracks to get to, so I'm sure it messed up more than a few people's day.1974.5 Jensen Healey : 2003 330i/5

It's so true how one can be distracted enough to fail to notice something like a train. The radio in my car isn't working so during a quick errand I decided to put some headphones on while I was driving. After driving on an open country road for a few miles, suddenly the car ahead of me pulled over, and then I noticed the car in the oncoming lane had pulled over, too. Confused, I finally looked in the rearview mirror and saw the flashing lights of a quickly approaching emergency fire response vehicle, which after ripping of my headphones, had its sirens blaring. I knew that wearing headphones was illegal for this reason so I definitely felt like shit after that, and lucky I didn't get a ticket since a cop was following behind it.
It gave me the worst goosebumps/chills I'd ever had, completely terrifying.
I got on the train, and the doors closed, then opened and a MARTA cop pulled me off to talk to me. At this point, I was late, had just had an argument with a friend, just popped my bike's innertube which I replaced that day, and was later to have my cell phone soaked in water at work, so I didn't really wanna give ol' dude the time of day.
But he was a nice guy about it, and said he saw what had happened. I noticed other people on the platform looking at me with crazed looks seconds after the train came in too.
Closest I've ever been to death I'd say.

Still at work right now. Had to do event recorder tests on the locomotive and cab car, then full downloads on both.
Didn't get much sleep last night either with the day fresh in my mind.
I didn't know the girl, but being that the past 2 days have involved my work to be directly related to her death is having a strong psychological effect.

Its always bad and traumatic to have to deal with the aftermath of a grizzly work place fatality or even survivable yet limb destroying accident.
