Make a nicely weighted, ZHP-ish shaped, CF wrapped (and clear-coated) shift knob that sits nice and low and I'll gladly buy one.
EDIT: but I don't think you can do that on a lathe
The first car I ever rode in was an e30

Actually I'd love a cheap body mounted shifter. Just make a plate that can be bolted into the transmission tunnel, potentially spaced down a bit so we can adjust the height of our shifters to our liking. It could use a stock replacement short shifter (or even a stock one), and you'd just need the hole in the center to fit a stock bushing. Seems easy enough to make and a good upgrade.

I've put a small amount of thought into this. Would two pieces of flat metal on either side of the shifter/joint with bolts through it(NOT TIGHT) work?

Yeah that would take a CNC mill to accurately get the shape, plus the carbon layup would take forever since I can only do wet layups (no pre-preg here).

So this would effectively just lower the shift nob but not necessarily shorten the throw, right? Having trouble visualizing how this would interact with the shift carrier.
or make a cheaper DSSR? idk if that is copyright though
I thought a bit about that too. I'm not trying to mass produce parts, but I could see myself doing a small batch. As long as I use a different design than UUC, it should be fine. The issue is I have no idea what dimensions I would need or how th part would interact with mounting hardware.
Could I just use the standard selector rod dimensions but make a beefier version?

The whole point of those style shifter are to eliminate the bushings not just for the shifter carrier but also the plastic housing that the shifter ball sits in. Your idea kinda negates that.
I hate modded emtree, I hate modded cawrz, I hate jdm, I hate swag, I hate stanceyolokids, I hate bags (on cars), I hate stuff that is slowz, I hate tires.

I've had a hard time finding pictures of it already done but have read about it and plan to do it on my car once I get solid motor and tranny mounts.
You can take the old, aluminum plate shifter carrier, cut it down a bit, and bolt it to the top of transmission tunnel. It would raise the shifter about an inch and make working on it much easier since it's mounted on top and can just be unbolted. I have a DSSR and short shifter I plan to use with it and when I get it done, I'll post it up. I would eliminate a good amount of bushings and the bitch clip.
It's a beauty. Thanks again bro!
Great guy to work with, quick to work and great communication.
