    International Shipping?

Well I've never shipped internationally before or anything this heavy. Any advice on how much something like this would cost to ship? Its going from California to the Manila,Philippines.

It's a Discovery Transfer Case. Weighs about 130 pounds. How should I pack this thing? Crate? Box?! What company do I ship with? Any and all information is needed!

If this is your first international shipment it is a challenging one to start with. I ship to the Philippines once a month-ish. The easiest choice would have been USPS, however they have a table that shows weight and size limits to different countries and the max weight is 80 lbs for the Philippines.

Next option is my favorite way to ship internationally, TNT. I use a business account and am not sure how to approach them as an individual. Expect to pay AT LEAST a couple hundred and be sure to pay the extra $ for insurance.

You could also try using a private freight forwarder or DHL, but beware with those methods there will be additional brokerage charges that won't show up right away.

Ouch didnt want to hear that. I expected it to be a challenge, but this is turning into a mission impossible. I know of some shipping companies my mom used to send supplies to relatives, but I'm about 70pds over weight limit. I've done some research and heard of people getting extra charges after shipping. Really would hate to get hit with that, but thats shaping up to be my only option. Not only my first international ship, but first one of this size and weight as well so pretty overwhelmed.

Depending on size, I would wrap it in a trash bag and and foam in place it in a large HDX shipping container like this

While you're out checking Johnny Air Cargo (JAC), you can also inquire about their JAC Ocean service. This should be the cheaper option, but it will take longer, 3-4 weeks.

Make sure you drain ALL of the oil in the transfer case. If customs finds oil or any chemical in the case then they can hold it. In that case it needs to declared as a shipment of chemicals which requires special packaging, and paper work (MSDS sheets) and can be very expensive.

There is no reason to get additional charges post-shipping.
Clearly tell the buyer all duties and fee's upon delivery are their responsibility.
All major shipping companies allow you to indicate on the manifest/bill of lading that things like duties, customs, etc. are responsibility of the recipient.

If you know of anyone who works at a shipping facility with access to FedEx, you can call FedEx great rates for large international shipments. Usually are around 40-70% discounts on published rates. At that weight, I'd consider a small crate to.

Any advice on how to get this thing bone dry? I could probably just leave the drain plug out for a couple days.

I wish I knew anyone, I'll have to ask my pops if I can use anyone with his shop connections.

Thanks for the advice everyone! Helping me out a ton.
