Plasma cutter...fixing?

Hobart Smoothcut 625. "Fault" light comes on when the button on the handle is pressed, no arc.



...any suggestions?

It was free, so no loss here, but would be cool to have a free, working plasma cutter, even if it is old as dick.

From the look of that thing, I'd start by cleaning any and all electrical connections (make sure it has a good ground). Take the shell off and see how grimy it is inside.

That grounding clamp may well be the issue if it is as rusty as it looks.

That's just a Google image pic, but this one is in similar looking condition. Sat in the back of the shop for ages.

My board in my Miller got smoked, sent me a new one quickly for like $150. just had to ship the old one back.

We were gonna take it apart and look for any burned up resistors or anything, really. As the site you linked said, there is no info on these.

my miller plasma came to me under similiar circumstances. i was able to go to the miller web site and download/print a complete manual for free. it included wiring diagrams and troubleshooting tables.

Since fucking when. The only differance between a miller and hobart is the box and the color of the case. Hobart is the cheap miller not esab.

You are correct, my bad. Even then I dont see any of there Spectrum line on the list, but, I'm not sure how far back that goes or how old your plasma is.

So got an email back. They said they never heard of such a thing and couldn't help me.

I went to the local welding supply place and they said their other location has a guy who fixes these things. Going to have to make time to run by there and see what he says.
