help finding a car for my family

so my parents are looking for a new used car and they want to spend less than 10k my mom wants a wagon with AWD

the first choice was the 03' Audi allroad, but the maintence would suck.

next is 03-04 subaru forester 2.5 headgasket issue

05' volvo XC70 turbo, turbo rebuild will be expensive

im trying to help them out so they dont get shafted if you guys know of any other cool wagons in this price range preferably the more bullet proof the better, needs to be AWD since my mom works in the snow.

Subaru Legacy wagon. The Subaru head gasket issues are mostly an over-exaggerated thing... and generally pertain to the older models that you're probably not going to want anyway. Get a reasonably newer one, and you'll be fine.

Get a turbo Subaru wagon. IIRC they didn't have the HG issues as bad because MLS gasket.

            Don't touch Audi.

            Don't touch Volvo w/AWD.

BMWs aren't bad, but no real touring AWD until e9x/e61 wagons. E46t are too small to be of any use IMO, but then again they're probably about the same size as a Subie.

early x5? i'd imagine those should be getting pretty low in value by now, i get a feeling many x5 owners are not willing to turn their own wrenches to maintain them... so the used prices should be hit down a bit by now

Random example from my local craigslist:
                2002 BMW X5 3.0 SUV - $7800
...what hasn’t been done to an m20 yet?
