    1966 mustang restoration

My buddies uncle had a 66 stang that had been sitting for around 20 years and said that if he can haul it he can have it. I'm guiding/helping him do it. Anyways here's the car:

So him and his dad flew to Seattle, rented a truck and brought it back to Raleigh

Nice !!! My dad use to have a 1966 K code hipo 289 mustang coupe. Does the car have any rust at all ? Your car has a factory 4 speed and 289 2bbl,what about a 9 inch rearend ? That 289 2bbl engine puts out 200hp stock.

What a fun project. Looks like its in not that bad of shape for sitting for 20 years. I would have dreaded that drive though. Keep us posted on the progress!

I'd say its more of a cleanup rather than a restoration. I'll bet the paint comes back with some polishing, the interior didn't look all that bad. Do you know why it was parked in the first place?

I had the prototype Shelby GT350 and GT350R in our pit for the Monterey Historics last weekend. The guy who I was crewing for found the street car in the '70s and restored it not knowing it was the prototype. He kept track of the car and later found that the president of the Shelby club of North America found paperwork stating that it was indeed the pre-production GT350. It was pretty cool having a pair of $1M cars in the pit with us. I can post some pics once I get them processed (I shot a lot of pics last weekend, its going to take a little while.)

After digging into it, I agree it will be more of a cleanup than a restoration. We pulled the engine last night, found a little bit of rust in the floor boards and cleaned a nice layer of dust out of the interior

Not really sure yet. The engine is definitely getting some aftermarket parts though

So sweet, after watching Trouble with the Curve and seeing Clint Eastwood's character driving around in a first gen mustang convertible, my fiancee said we could get one eventually, I've always loved these cars, will have one in the future without a doubt.

Good luck, looks like you've got a solid car there that should be quite nice with a bit of work.
