Picked up a 1980 Garelli Rally Sport Moped

Whats up r3v, I just picked up this Garelli Rally Sport from its original owner for $300. They bought it new and it only has 756 miles. Problem is I'm trying to get it running. It'll crank and run for a couple seconds on carb cleaner but it just dies after that. Any suggestions?
    Thanks

yup! pics or it didn't happen.

take the carb off the engine, take it apart carefully so you don't damage any gaskets. spray the shit out if it with carb cleaner. blow it out really well with your air compressor. make sure the needle valve/orifice is really cleaned out well. buy new gaskets/carb rebuild if you can. otherwise put it back together the way it came apart. should help a lot. also change the spark plug.

Clean the jet and make sure the tank is clean, blowing out the carb will do nothing if the jet is gunked up.

Wow, only 756 miles since 1980.

If it's got tits or tires, it's gonna cost ya!

soak the jet in carb cleaner and give it all new gas. if it's old gas, it's probably trying to burn water when you run it.

it also needs new oil. 20 year old oil is BAD.

If you are going to remove the carb, Pine Sol is a great soaking carb cleaner that won't destroy non-metal parts and is safe to use....

How can you soak a jet in carb cleaner? It just evaporates...

Get yourself some speaker wire and remote a few strands, then pole through the jet and view through it while looking at a light bulb. Also make sure the inline filter is clean, I would personally just replace it with a new clear one for a lawn tractor. Inlet and outlet are typically 1/4"

That is a super clean moped!

Congrats! Just throwing this out there. Seriously watch the f---king moron car owners around you. Seems you are more invisible to them than a HD with loud pipes.

Car owners (different from car drivers) apparently think it is fine protocol to pass you on the left as close as they can. Just be careful of the morons. A helmet is no guarantee but it helps.

BTW, I work in the emergency room.
