Like it says, looking at maybe another something to use as a DD. The E34's great but it's a bit thirsty. I'm specifically looking at the 5 or 6cyl Turbodiesels.....

i had a 87 300TD. A pretty rare car, considered a collector car. MPG is decent in the mid to high 20s, and it drives like a gasser. Ride is quite comfortable, I'd say more so than an e34 since its quite "floaty"
Would I recommend one as a daily? If you could find one with a strong motor then yes. You dont want to deal with a diesel rebuild.

My dad drives a *mint* W124 300E.
Rides like an old Peugeot, not a BMW.
It had some really shitty acceleration/torque until he replaced the entire F.I. system a few months ago.
Goes like a train (for a 6) now. Still wish it was a 400E..
It'll soon be receiving proper Euro headlights and later-model MB wheels with lip.

I had a 93 500E for a few years. Fuckin amazing on the freeway.... will pull hard from 30 to as fast as your sense of self preservation will allow.
Build quality is superb, if you maintain it it'll go forever. Lol at Grand Marquis guy up there.... theres a reason you still see W124s every day. The last time I saw a Crown Vic was a month ago and they made, what, a billion.of them?
The 500 engine is great, but even the base engines are strong too. Super torquey, I'd rock a 300E/TE in a minute.
They do feel quite a bit different than a BMW. More robust, but heavier. Sometimes it feels like you're driving a train instead of a car. That's kinda of the appeal... they're great dailies while still feeling very upmarket despite their age.M119 M42 M62 S52 S62

Here's my old 83 300D, it's a W123 but comparable. The mileage was decent for a car of that vintage. I did a shit ton of past due maintenance on it which probably took 10 years off my life due to the amount of diesel grime that soaked into my pores. At any rate, it was a very good car and with a bit of tweaks to the injector pump it was decently quick for what it was.
