GM was the 1st to make 1/2 tons with disk rears, they went back to the drum set up BECAUSE of customer complaints for about a decade about piss poor brake pedal feel. Ford going all AL for chassis on its trucks, I dont see going well in about a decade, you live in the north you ever see what mag chloride or salt does to AL once there is microscopic chip in the protection.... The ecco boost is having all kinds of issue with carbon deposits on intake valves.....@ MrSleeve,
We rag on GM build quality, or at least I do, becasue you said it yourself - low end car. You've just come to expect less, so when it delivers low standards you're not disappointed. Take a look at what Ford has done for it's affordable (not 'low end') cars. The Fiesta is not only exceptionally well built, but is an incredibly good vehicle to drive. Compare the Silverados. For years they were still being made with drum rear brakes while the competition switched to disc, the new Ford has gone all aluminum, Dodge 1500 and 2500 both have air-ride options with 5-link suspension and REAL WOOD interiors, while Chevrolet is trying to pass off an aesthetics update and the same plastic-wood picture accents and leaf springs. It's a joke. Even the used car prices agree with me. I can get a 2010 Silverado for about $4k less than the equivilant Dodge (I should know, I'm in the market for an oil-field truck).
The dodge being more costly where you live Vs where I live is largely regional, as where I live across the board New to used you have to nearly give a dodge away, Vs paying out the nose for GM...... Ford falls someplace in between most of the time, this was also the case where I lived in Southern MI. You go to TX and fords seem to command higher pricing
UPDATE:
Yes becuase they have to turn up the wick on that old ass 70's engine architecture to get them to sell, no one wants to buy a underpowered POS that wont get out of its own way let alone when you "load" it......(other than the GM twins that I5 was kinda weird, I had one ) Dakota's NEVER had a 5.7 they had the 318 or the 360 in the R/T's Yeah the last couple of years you could get 5.3 in the GM twins that was largely to CUSTOMER requests.....Originally posted by cwatt@MrSleeve again (lol),
The big 3 dropped their mid-size trucks due to low sales yes, but that was during peak oil prices and the fuel economy savings wasn't worth the compromise in utility. At the time, the Ranger with the 4.0L V6 got 1mpg better than the F150 with the 5.4L Triton, the Dakota actually had a V8 option (can't remember if it was the 4.7 or 5.7 though), and so too did the Canyon/Colorado later in it's production life. So buying a quarter ton didn't make much sense. Even less now with the V6 diesel from Dodge and V6 Ecoboost from Ford.
You really think its because of fuel economy, NO its because people want full size trucks plain and simpleThe American Republic will endure until the day Congress discovers that it can bribe the public with the public's money. -Alexis de TocquevilleOriginally posted by FusionIf a car is the epitome of freedom, than an electric car is house arrest with your wife titty fucking your next door neighbor.

And the miles used on it as a daily, along with the huge fuel costs are negligible? Assuming the average person uses their "work" truck for only 1/4 of it's life as a daily, that's 1/4 the cost of the purchase price as well as all that distance covered in a vehicle that is usually horrible on gas.Comment

Well I have had mine for 8 years, gets about 17 mixed and about 12 loaded down heavy, and I plan on keeping it untill it drops a rod out the bottom or the wheels fall off.... If I had to run 80 miles one way to work every day yeah I would have a 4 banger beater for good days....The American Republic will endure until the day Congress discovers that it can bribe the public with the public's money. -Alexis de TocquevilleOriginally posted by FusionIf a car is the epitome of freedom, than an electric car is house arrest with your wife titty fucking your next door neighbor.

You just proved my point here. GM attempted to step into the 21st century and fell flat on their face becuase it was terrible. And they switched back becase a lot of the complaints were central to the cost of a rear brake job - pads and rotors were around $1,500 CDN. I should know - I worked as the parts guy at a GM dealership. As a courtesy, we sold the parts at trade pricing because even we felt it was a rip-off.

Unless there is a HUGE mark up on brake parts in the hat your full of shit.. I put new brakes all the way round on my 3/4hd with NEW GM parts for 550ish a couple of years back....
I would not say it was a huge fail it just was not the same as most long time GM buyers were used too, with a little softer feel to the pedal. I will take the slightly softer pedal feel to the overly touchy tries to lock em every time you look at the brake pedal like the new dodges haveLast edited by mrsleeve; 12-04-2014, 12:09 AM.The American Republic will endure until the day Congress discovers that it can bribe the public with the public's money. -Alexis de TocquevilleOriginally posted by FusionIf a car is the epitome of freedom, than an electric car is house arrest with your wife titty fucking your next door neighbor.
