The 275GTB is only unpopular if compared to the 250. The 275 is definitely a $900k-$5m car depending on the car.

I think Daytonas are past $1 million now, and nice GTOs are in the 25 to 30 million at auctions. There were only 23 or so, and all accounted for, owned by a club of high rollers who gather every couple of years to drive them across europe and dine in style. That's how one of them was badly damaged recently - he and his wife were on the way to one of the events and got hit on the highway. All fixed now - restoration is pocket change!

I got to sit in a Daytona coupe once, in a cool old Ferrari repair shop in Denver, early 80s. Metal building in an industrial area. Guy working by himself in a room full of old Ferraris. Classical music playing.

Unbelievable car just to be around - the lines are so much cooler in person. Then the wheel is tipped forward like a bus - you'd have to really get used to that.

When I was a kid I'd ride my bike to downtown Denver to the old Ferrari dealer on S Broadway. One day they had several Daytonas inside, and a couple outside just sitting in the parking lot. One was a dark brown coupe with those two-toned striped leather seats.

A gum-chewing saleman popped out and walked over to it, said hey, fired it up, and ripped up Broadway going up through the gears. Just going to lunch, ho-hum. That sound!

Recently my son and I were picking up a used Alfa rear axle assembly from a guy in Seattle, and he had this sitting in the shop…275 GTS. Bought it from his best friend's dad when he got older. My son got to sit in it and pose for pics. Pretty great.

Sterling Moss's GTO, the only one with a really different paint job (I think one or two might have been blue).

We have a 1995 f355 and we love it. I'd recommend that. Its also one of the better looking Ferraris ever made IMO.

Yeaaahhhh its kinda intense. You have to do the timing every 20k miles and while they're in there they do all the small stuff. We're doing our maint right now and its about 19k for clutch, throw out bearing, timing, etc etc.

a nice feature of the 550/575m is that you don't have to pull the engine out of the car to change the timing belt. i'm sure it still costs a couple grand to have it done at a reputable shop, but it must be considerably cheaper than a mid layout car.

i called ferrari houston today. no....not to ask about the f40 dammit.

i wanted to know how much it costs to do a major service on a 550. oddly, it is much cheaper than i would have expected. the guy said it includes a synthetic oil change, timing belt replacement, tune up, brakes, checking all the diagnostics, resetting the codes if necessary, basically giving the car a complete once over and fixing whatever little things that usually go wrong with them. the service manager said a complete major service only costs about 1300-1800 bucks. they are so much cheaper than the mid engine cars because you don't have to pull the engine out to do any work to it.

i also called haggarty insurance to see what kind of rates i would be looking at. i selected 2000 miles a year, kept in a locked garage, a household of 2 owning 4 cars (still need to keep the Mtech as a daily and the f350 for construction), no tickets or accidents in the last 3 years.....the rate was only about 1500 bucks. once the car hits 20 years old, the rate would go down to less than half of this. (assuming an agreed value of around 75k)

normally, i would want to do all the maintenance on any car i own myself. i love working on my own cars. i am on the fence in this case though. a car like this seems to have more value when there is a good service history.....i wonder what would be the trade off?

so.....insurance and assuming a major service every 2 years, this equates to around 200.00/month in ownership cost. certainly tires will come into play at some point. clutch replacement. who knows what else.....

it seems crazy affordable for the amount of car you get.....

i was talking to my wife on the phone tonight. she asked when i was planning to fly up and look at the car i've had my eye on.
