i believe I have found a positive correlation between sugar consumption and cold and flu season.
As someone who hasnt' had a cold or flu since 2008 (also the same time I started natural bodybuilding), i always knew my workouts and diet (lots of fresh veggies and fruits with a dash of meat every once in a while and NEVER going "light" on my dairy products) seems to have worked well.
Oh and for dairy stuff, it's full fat or nothing...cheeses, milk, yogurt, etc. are all full of fat and taste GREAT with no sugar or fake sweeteners added. No need for fruit flavoring either (let's be honest, there's no real fruit in there anyway...it's mostly sugar).
Over the past year i've been really slacking on my workouts...only going once or twice a week at times. I've kept up the lack of sugar and processed grains and remarkably I've been able to keep healthy. Even my body weight has remained consistant at 150.
So back to sugar. It's the devil's tool at ensuring we as a society will remain sick, our teeth will decay nicely, we will all develop diabetes in our lifetimes, as well as a plethora of other damaging sicknesses that are associated to sugar consumption as well as others that are considered to be a "natural part of aging". Tho no doctor with conventional training would be willing to admit this.
Funny how all of our holidays are surrounded by sugar. It's all that we crave because it's all around us. We've been socialized to consume these things are part of the holidays (i.e. chocolates and candies on valentines day, pumpkin pie on thanksgiving, sugar cookies on christmas..etc.). And by not consuming them makes you are a grinch! Oh and dont' forget those beverages both with and without alcohol (egg nog, hot chocolate etc).
At my workplace its' funny seeing what everyone uses to feel better once they are sick. Watching them swill down cans of "ginger ale", and tea sweetened with heavy doses of honey. And don't forget a few digestive cookies for good measure...ugh, I could go on, but I won't
Here's some links supporting my theory. This first one is my fave as I often have found myself having to pretend to be sick just to take sick days away from work. Not that I feel sick, but I never use the darn things that are allocated to me!
and a few others for your reading enjoyment
Hopefully this info will help some of you with your new years resolutions
