People here train for the Ironman pretty much year round, I see alot of people doing 60mile trips maybe twice a week, also see alot of the same people doing longs flats on some days, then just plain steep hills on other days.

All in all it don't look fun, but good luck if thats how you get your kicks :P

practice in 'brick' sessions every now and then...that is doing a bike ride and going for a run, or vice versa. mix up swims in there a bit too. this is because when you are riding you use a whole bunch of different muscles...coming into the run it can take a while to get into it as it feels really wierd. also practice transitions (the swap over) as its one thing putting on shoes/helmets etc normally compared to when your buggered from a swim/ride. as said above practice sea swimming..so much different to pool and it sucks sucking at swimming as you feel like ass cos your doing bad and etc...

mainly have fun, mix up your training.....dont push too much if you feel like shit its ok to take a day off. doing hills on the bike and running makes you stronger...learn to spin on the bike (90rpm ish cadence)

learn how to work on your bike (easy compared to e30s!) cos its a pretty long ride...would suck to DNF because of a flat tyre (dont laugh, it happens)

      have some good running shoes!

triathlon is a funny sport as you need to be such an good all rounder to do well

      have fun

THX for all the tips. I rode 27 miles yesterday, and did a very short run (only b/c my chain jumped and got jammed, lol). It's a possibility that we will do this thing NEXT year instead of 2008. Alot of it will depend on how much I can train over the Fall as it is my last semester of school.

I found a nice pond to train in yesterday as I was going cross-country, it's not far from my house and it should make a great camping spot as well. Lucky me.
