    Outdoor Thread

Trying to get my mind of winter and Im starting to think about being outside a lot this spring and summer. I really want to get into hiking and taking nature photos and want to see what everyone else is up to.

So post up anything with the great outdoors, hiking, camping, living off the grid, rock climbing, fishing, trail riding, whatever. I know we have some nature people on here.

Can't wait for the season opening camping trip!

Fishing, hiking, shooting guns, burning food, waking up with a fresh layer of snow waiting outside your tent.

Some real drool worthy shots Mrsleeve. I can only imagine it being a whole days worth of time to get out to some spots and back. I need to start thinking about what kind of gear to take out. I would imagine a backpack full of snacks and a place to store my camera while hiking is a must. Ive only done short hikes on main trails and carried my camera in hand the whole time.

Abbi (ak-) and I do our fair share of exploration/hiking/gun stuff.

We usually find an area that interests us, and tackle it in a week or so. We explore new beaches, remote forests, mountains, huge cliffs, basically anything that seems marginally worth the work. And it's been great so far.

You can find bits and pieces of our adventures on Instagram.

well it all depends on where you going, and where you happen to be, time of year and what not

Plenty of decent day packs out there, just find one that fits you best in the size your looking for, good hiking boots that fit you properly ( I like Asolo GTX's or my work boots Whites Smoke Jumpers) some alternate clothing for a change in weather that is appropriate for your area and season ( I have winterish gear in the bottom of my pack all most all the time) this can include rain gear. Food is what you think your going to need for your planed outing, packs of cheese and crackers to full on dehydrated mountain house meals, though your favorite high protein high calorie compact snacks are best for hikes of a few hours . Always have a good pocket knife on you if not a decent fixed blade as well. A small decent compass and know the basic's on how to use it, a multi-tool is not a bad idea to have with either.

Camera gear well that all depends on what you have, crumpler makes nice pouches to put your shit in and protect it in your pack. I carry my main camera on a op-tec cross chest sling style strap. with a tripod q/r plate mounted into my water bottle pouch on my left side of my pack to keep it at my side, and not slinging around. everything else is in a crumpler pouch or wrapped up in spare clothing...

Protection, well thats all up too your personal preference, needs, state and local laws. I dont know if MD would allow you carry bear spray (you do have black bears in places) and I know the have crappy firearms laws......

We went for a bit of ride today, people live out this way so the road is at least "plowed" yeah I hardly got out of the truck to get this one but it was a hour and half to get here and it takes longer in the summer as the road is in better shape right now.

Maybe Ill make it my goal to go find a bear this summer lol. I did hear over the past couple years a few sightings but never anything substantial. I have a nice backpack I could load up on. I think nice hiking shoes would be a good investment as all I own are vans and nikes. Im excited to start getting out. I think this spring I can start off local and do small hikes of a few hours.

Traveled to the Adirondack Mountains this weekend, we stayed on the outskirts of Lake Placid. On Saturday my GF and I climbed Cascade(one of the high peaks) Elevation was not bad at 4,098

Roughly -38 with med winds while on this one. The view was not good due to the wind and snow, but it was well worth the climb!

                          me

Then on Sunday we climbed Mount Jo Elevation is much lower at 2,876 but the climb is very steep but view was unreal! once on top you can overlook Heartlake.

My friend doing her yoga tree pose and a crow flies right into the shot on top of Mount Jo...it was pretty epic.
