Aplly for everything, even shit that doesnt seem to pertain to you. They cant discriminate so if you meet the qualifications for the scholarship and the specific targeted group doesnt apply then you get a scholarship.

Shit, of half the free money I got they, say, gave out 3 awards and only had as many applicants. That means I could have been legally retarded and still won it. And it adds up, write the essays. It may only be a $200 scholarship but you get 10 of those and you've got some nice change.

Go find your OSFA and ask them for advice, that is what they are there for.
    Im now E30less.

      Priorities.

The aid is not there because your father owns his own business, it's because of his annual income. You wouldn't believe the formulas they go by. With a $100K income they feel you should spend up to $30K for your kids college. At UT in Austin - a state school - tuition and fees are $10K per year. Good private schools are $20K and up. My two daughter's education comes after a lot of things including my E30 and that hurts! My oldest daughter got a $14K scholarship to a $22K a year private school. Cheaper than a state school. Apply for everything everywhere.

Be All That You Can Be. Army Of One. GI bill $36k to school and Certificates (acknowledged certificates), Tuition reimbersment programs, some states pay for 100% if you joined in that state and served honorably.

I'm going to premed in TN using my GI Bill and my reserve unit is paying 100% tuition, so I pocket my GI bill check - $1184 a month. I'll move to TX for my accual Medschool and will get 150 free credit hours for being a war vet (Hazelwood Act - look it up if you wish); some states pay 100% no matter how you served as long as you have an honorable discharge.

And I'm in the can't spell either club too.

I got a $500 a year science scholarship. WOoO . HOPE pays for everything tuition wise. I plan to be about 20K in debt by the time I graduate because I will have to move out on my own for my last two semesters. There will be no way to work my last two years because class will be so tough.

Long time ago I applied for Fin Aid - Filled out the form honestly - and even on my small sallary, the chick at the window looked at the number, and said "you put down you make more than 12k a year. Is that a mistake?" (then what I can only explain as a aquward moment, her attempt at a whink, whink) - "no I don't, that number is off my tax form. She asked again. I replied with the same. "Would you like to fill it out again? 12.5 is our max, are you SURE (WHINK WHINK) you dind't make that much?"

George Washington mode set in - "no mama, I can't say that"

              ...

I took the SAT's once, scored a 1440. Middle class white guy with a sister in college and another in private school. I got jack shit for scholarships to St. Lawrence, albeit a very nice school financial aid grant. Even still Im looking at like 40 g's in student loans to pay off. Fucking 44k a year private schools....

That being said there are opportunities out there, but alot of it I feel is about who you know.

The GI Bill put my grandfather through college.

If you can't get money, get loans. If you dont want as much loans, work. If you don't want to work and go to school, join the military... they hook you up.

None that's why their's an old movie based on this. White guy turns himself black.... Look long and hard there are scholarships but you have to search for them.

Edit GI Bill is 685 a month and you can't use till after completing 28 months in the service.

Maybe I'm just stating the obvious? But alot of scholarships aren't entirely based upon grades anymore...Alot of it is about community involvement and extracurricular. Such as volunteering, leadership works, community projects etc.

Most of us don't have time for this, but it does make me feel that it helps and my first year tuition is already payed off.

If your looking for the scholarships and handouts, you gotta show that your worth it and different than all the other "middle classed white boys". Besides, volunteering helps your personal fulfillment:D

Good luck with the student loans if all else fails...

                              ahahaha

The scholorship that I got through volunteer work is $500 per semester. Unless you live with the homeless for five years or find a huge organization that will throw money at you for volunteering, there isn't much besides the academic ones.

Plus it all depends where you went to school. My 31 ACT and 3.2 GPA couldn't get me any money because the same kids in my class got all of the scholorships. And those organizations would probably rather pay for someone's Northwestern or Notre Dame education than mine at Purdue.

And you can't touch a scholorship in Purdue Engineering unless you're an Asian dude with a 4.0 GPA.

my pal isn't asian and get got the Dean's scholarship from engineering on entry. my SAT score was a little low for it, which is crazy and shows how  Purdue is... but I guess I should have done a little better. I would have gotten $ if I came in as a mgmt major, but then again couldn't have taken Chem 136 and met the people I did... man, i miss freshmen year.

and girls would get more scholarship love than dudes.
