Almost 2 years ago I sold a black dress belt with a stingray end keeper to a customer and he contacted me a few days ago because the buckle snapped, it was a cast buckle I got off a vintage belt since I did not stock anything that small(1-1/4"). He was super chill about the issue and sent in back in for free repair, I replaced it with a solid brass roller buckle and made a new end keeper to his desires with a hidden rivet.
It got me thinking when I did the hidden rivet on this belt repair; about how amazing the response to my work has been! I notice the growth and skill in the finished product and when I see early work it makes me happy, I notice things I have changed and new designs and function. Do not be content with the latest, strive to outshine your last effort in everything you do.
In 2014 I took my small hobby and went to make it into a business, in the world of fashion this is a VERY hard thing to do, it is hard because of main stream leather work that is carrying an in house name to the market I target(selvedge denim, high end work wear). At the end of 2014 I pulled in nearly 8k in sales, I know that is nothing special but it is not a flop! For 2015 I am ahead by 1/3 and projecting 10-12k in sales, I have my dry week every other month, but the point of all this is; I saw something and I put in the hard work, no sales and leap of faith to spend thousands making this real, I love what I am doing and I am so grateful for response of complete strangers outside this forum and just in general! In the coming month I am being showcased in a HUGE online mag/review blog. Funny thing...in 2012 if someone told me I would being sewing and own two sewing machines I would have laughed at them...let alone spend nearly 1k on a single machine!
So for everyone that was there from the start, thank you! If it was not for you buying a belt, a wallet or some other item I would not be here right now, I would not have had orders to pay for leather so that I could afford to buy more leather and progress in a higher finish.
Please post a photo of your leather that you bought from me, I want to see the wear and patina! For everyone that posts you will get a PM from me for a 25% discount code for my etsy pricing!
