My Current Stable: One runs, one is a rolling shell.
If some positive financial things happen, I'd like to turn the shell into the dream machine, and sell the beater for a handsome amount and get a daily that isn't an E30. Thinking about a retired police car that is new enough to have an outrageous policy on the E30, or a Fiesta ST. Or, keep the beater, slowly build shell, and acquire a daily anyways.
When someone ran into and totaled my E30 I thought I would have another one day. Unfortunately, I still do not. I tried to find one when I needed a backup family car - but nice, clean ones are hard to find - and I just could not wait any longer and ended up with a Lexus IS300 (manual). It's a very good car, but clean, manual sedan E30s like the one I like are unicorns, just like that IS300 manual is.

Focus RS or bust.
Depending on the living/job/financial situation next year, I may ditch the BRZ and get one if they end up being as awesome as it sounds.

All things considered... You could do worse than a manual IS300 as a family sedan.

Oh, I like it a lot. It is a very nice car - and it is built better than BMW builds cars based on all the weathered E36 and E46s I have seen before I ended up with it - but I am afraid that it will be a long while before I own another E30 given that when I had an "opening" in the garage for one, I could not find one.

RS will be awesome. But I won't spend 30k+ on a compact, unless I could drop cash for one, which would mean I'd have incredible cashflow.
When the RS is available the 2014/2015 ST's will have dropped a few more grand in price for a barely used one. That means the RS will easily cost 2-3 times more. Dollars and sensibility for me right there. But I've also got some financials to sort out before I consider one.

Couldn't agree more. Unicorn modern car for sure. It's like a manual 6-speed sport E91 wagon, one came up on my local craigslist was an Individual in Interlagos blue. Clearly owned by a meticulous enthusiast.
