Going to Germany: Where should I Go?

    Hey,

I will be in Germany from July 1st till August 1st this summer. What are the places that I can't miss? Take into account though that most of my weekdays will be taken up by school. (learning german in germany)

    Any other words of wisdom?

BTW I'm 17 for those that don't know...

    Depends on where you are...

Munich was fun...especially the hoffbrauhaus. A trip to the top of the Zugspitz was worth it, tour some of the castles if you can(Neuschwanstein was the one I saw and it was awesome), Oberomergau was kind of cool, although I don't know if its worth the effort to get there.

    Autobahn and Nurburgring...

Hofbrauhaus is full of tourists, mostly americans- especially during summer.

But, it does depend on where you are. If you're into BMW's, Munich is an obvious choice (BMW factory tour + museum, BMW Mobile Tradition, etc) . If you want to see a less touristy Biergarten, hit one of the outdoor spots- I sort of remember Augustiner-Keller being a good one. (learn a bit of german before you go- "Ein Mass bitte" will get you a 1 liter mug of cold good beer)

If you have access to a car, Nurburgring is a must do also. Check ahead of time to make sure the track is open to the public when you plan to go. Don't worry about not having a really fast car, it's fun in whatever you can take there.

If you're in Munich, Dachau concentration camp is something you really should visit. It can be depressing and sort of surreal, but it's a very powerful place and you should see it at least once.

There are lots of other excellent car/transport museums all over Germany, I remember a couple in Sinsheim that were well worth the trip. Porsche Museum in Stuttgart is OK, but not worth a special trip.

There are plenty of things to see and do, try not to be an ugly american and you'll have a much more enjoyable trip.

      Bret.

        Hey man,

I am on my last week of my Germany vacation. I traveled around a lot and I gotta tell you, each town has something to do if you look around. Since you are taking classes on the weekdays, I figure you are staying in one town only.... depending on which one it is, I can give you some spots to hit up.

Plan to travel a lot during the weekend because there is a lot to see and do in Germany. Personally I liked Bavaria/Baden (south Germany) a lot better.

Take a journey to Rock-em-heim or Rock-em-ring. 3 days of concert either at Hockemheim or Das Nurburgring. Alot of fun. More than that's legal in the US anyway.

I dunno about this Rock-am-heim, but Rock-am-Park was last weekend. That only happens once a year.

Remember it being later in the year but if it was last week so be it. It's a fun time.

I will be in Kassel, north of Frankfurt, in the center of Germany. At the end of my trip I will have an extended weekend to do stuff that is a little farther away.

Your best bet will be heading over to the Dusseldorf/Koln area for fun then. Maybe if you can stretch out to Hamburg and check out the St. Pauli district.

Use your extended vacation on Bavaria.
