Local cab driver in my city goes on tirade. *must watch*

    check this.

There's a massive war happening here (and i'm sure in other cities) between the local taxi companies, and Uber.

the majority of cab drivers in my city are nice.
There is a small percentage like this dude...

this happened in Ottawa, Canada's capital.

Some people today are to violent, and very self centered. Look at the walmart fight, what they are teaching their kids is entitlement, and that violence is the answer.

generally speaking, i would say that about 80% of all taxi drivers are complete assholes. i really hate to stereotype, but in the industry i am in, we use taxi's often to go between the airport and the hotel. i am pretty sure the taxi companies are so hard up for employees they will hire any immigrant that can fog a mirror and doesn't have a personality to get a job elsewhere.

what!!????? you don't speak a single word of english? come work here! you have ties to the taliban? no problem! you smell like a rhinoceros who hasn't washed his ass in 6 months? no worries!!! we have the perfect job for you!!! here is your vehicle! its an ex patrol car with 1.2 million miles that smells like vomit and sweaty butt crack! don't worry that the shocks are blown! you can pretend you are in the movie "soul plane" every time you hit a bump. just be sure to stay in the left lane on the highway while you are doing 48mph. no one else on the road is more important than you are.

they generally drive like complete self-centered assholes too.

excuse the rant. there is actually a good argument for uber.

We just had a whole story on the early local news today about taxi companies flipping out over Uber. I never use a taxi, but I'll say the few times I have in bigger cities (Chicago, Boston and NY) I would have to side with Flyboys examples. Just horrible experiences, felt extremely unsafe riding in the one in Boston.

I like the concept of Uber, the driver has incentive to give a shit about their customer, their car and overall service. Instead of getting the luck of the draw from the cab line at the airport. I have some buddies that still party quite a bit, they use Uber all the time because it ends up being a fraction of the cost of what a taxi would run them.

I cant remember if it was in Oregon or Washington, but about 10 years ago we had a taxi driver get so angry he removed himself from his taxi, and commenced grabbing someones small dog and tossed it into oncoming traffic. :loco:

It's stuff like this that is great for Uber. I don't know what its like in Ottawa but in Edmonton Uber is kicking ass in the "court of public opinion". Edmonton cab drivers are protesting Uber by having rallies where all they all park their cabs in big long lines and clog up traffic downtown.

Meanwhile Uber has twice now offered their services for free to pick up clothing donations from peoples homes for various charities. And national adopt a dog day or whatever it was called Uber was bringing puppies around to offices and worksites!

Yeah that kinda shit was uncalled for. He prolly had been sitting there for a long while and didnt want to give up his spot and miss a fare, and that can be understandable , BUT there is no reason to act like that over something so stupid

well after decades of taxis having a monopoly on the industry and having local govts helping them keep it that way in exchange for huge licensing fees (cab medallions that can cost upwards of 500k a pop in some cities ). You can see why uber might be an issue for them, and I frankly think it s a good thing too. I hate having to pay 22 bucks to get a 1.1 mile ride to the airport, or 50 bucks for a 10 min ride from the airport to the office at times....

Competition is a good thing and the entrenched and "approved" operators are going to fight anything like uber or other small time 1-2 car operation tooth and nail.
