    Irish coffee, Victory!

So I'm desperately trying to make a proper Irish coffee.

I'm using damn good coffee, Jameson Whiskey, and heavy creme.

My problem? I've already fucked up 2 glasses with the creme not staying separated. I've only got about 2 more glasses left worth and then I'm done for the night. Any more than that and I'll be way too drunk and way too hopped up on coffee to fall asleep.

So please, what am I doing wrong? I whipped the cream on my 2nd, and poured it over the back of the spoon, nothing.

Fuck yes this needed it's own thread, this is a damn emergency.

It's easy. Do it how the Irish do.

Pour whiskey into glass, brew coffee, mix cream SLOWLY into the coffee. Pour coffee mixture into the sink drain. Drink whiskey.

        Necro bump...

Are you taking the time to whip the cream? Or just pouring it in straight from the carton? The way i make my Irish coffee is to actually whip the cream (use a cold bowl). It's a PITA but since whipping introduces air into the cream, that's what allows it to "float" on the surface of the coffee/booze.

I tried a little bit but we have no whisk at the moment. I will make another attempt this weekend, thanks for the tip! I am determined to get this right.

do you have a mixer? as mentioned above, everything has to be ice cold. throw the bowl in the freezer for a few minutes before you get started.

Yeah a mixer will speed up the process a lot - especially if you're making several at once. I've used one of those AA-powered milk frother things as a "power whisk" with some success too!

Also if you want to change it up, you can substitute the sugar cube for brown sugar.

Hold the back of a spoon low, just over & in the top of the coffee, pour cream on the backside of spoon, letting it slide off.

You'll get that picture perfect look - unless you're already drunk enough it couldn't matter less now.

It's not how you handle the good times, but the faith you keep in the bad that defines you.

Lol that's what happened last time I tried.

That said, I've ditched half and half. Real cream tastes so much better in my morning coffee. Will attempt again this weekend.
