i think you're gonna have to eat the costs of the servers until you have a user base big enough to offset the costs / make a profit through advertisers. i hate to be a "negative nancy", but you're facing TONS of competition in the social media game, none of which cost anything to upload to.

i don't see this ending well

Oh don't worry, I already have servers quoted and it is rather a large price. The difference between this and youtube, etc is it is a constant live stream with each film only being played once. It is also going to be the worlds longest film ever. And the proceeds will be all going to charity.

you're making this sound an awful lot like the current "live-stream only plays things once for free" twitch

Is there anything you see ending well? I seriously don't think I've ever seen you compliment or like anything that's ever been posted by anyone...

you know that's not true, don't be a dick

OP, i don't mean to bust your balls, i really don't. if you had come up with this idea back in the early to mid 2000s people would be going fucking apeshit over your idea, simply because there was nothing else out there at the time (there was youtube, but remember back then the quality was nowhere near DVD level). however, unfortunate as it is for you, things have changed in the past 10-15 years. the internet is flooded with video streaming and hosting websites, 99% of which don't cost individuals (under certain circumstances, companies as well) anything to use.

the main reason why i don't see this working is how you're trying to sell it - you're marketing your service as a million minute social video that costs $1 per minute. in an instant, the majority of people no longer give a shit any more once they see it's gonna cost them money... because, in essence, they're paying to submit a video onto what they view as the equivalent of youtube.

you mention that 90% of the proceeds are going to charity - clearly this is something you really care about. conveniently, this is also something many people care about too. i think if you changed your strategy from selling a spot in a social media video to selling a donation to a specific charity which also gives the consumer X minutes to talk about why the charity is important to them or whatever they feel like uploading, this idea will be received positively by a much larger demographic than the one you're currently marketing to.

regardless, best of luck, i'm just saiyan you need to have a realistic outlook on this endeavor
