'Revenge porn site' owner Kevin Bollaert has sentence reduced by a decade

A San Diego pervert sentenced to eighteen years in state prison for running “revenge porn” site myex has had his sentence reduced to eight years.

Kevin Bollaert, 29, posted 15,000 nude photos of women on his website, U Got Posted, then charged victims to have their pictures or videos removed.

Bollaert was initially sentenced to 18 years in state prison, but Superior Court Judge Jason Gill ruled that he will now serve a “split sentence.” He will serve eight years in jail and the remainder of his sentence under obligated supervision in a community.

His lawyers argued local jails are not equipped to deal with a lengthy terms, prompting Gill to order the split sentence.

Bollaert’s dad made an emotional appeal on behalf of his son, describing him as a young man “who can do something in the world and not just be an animal that walks through a cage back and forth,”.

10 years off in just 2 months. Dude must have some awesome lawyers.

Honestly it's greasy as hell, but I don't see how he broke any laws. This is the same shit tabloids do. How are they getting away with it? Again not defending the guy I'm glad that shitbag is off the streets, er, web, but exactly what law did he break?

"Bollaert was convicted of 27 counts of identity theft and extortion in connection to the thousands of photos posted online."

It's not hard to find a charge for someone doing something that messed up on such a large scale.

Same with the multiple DUI websites that post mugshots (costs money to have pictures taken down), rip off report (fake claims cost money to be taken down), and countless other businesses that make money off of people in a similar just not sexual situation. It's extortion just the same and ruins lives, but they don't ever or rarely go to jail.

I agree it's greasey/slimey what he did, but 18 years? Are you kidding? If someone has porn out there that they agreed to, then this guy was just a facilitator of sorts. It's wrong, but not criminal when you compare him to others with the same sort of sentencing. I'll be in the minority and say even 8 years seems like a long time, but probably the fitting. The person who actually uploads the images/videos should be the one in trouble, but of course that's impossible/not worth making a headline about.

^on the one hand 18 years does seem extreme because people do less time for murder, but on the other hand he ruined thousands of lives and demonstrated a complete lack of conscience and empathy over the course of several years. He sounds like a textbook psychopath imo.

He capitalized on the bad choices of others, I don't care too much to look into the guy but I'm not even sure if he's really a sadistic person. Hell, he probably is, or just saw an opportunity.

The real fault is with the person who is in a compromising photo/video I'd say 90% of the time. If you knowingly record/photo yourself doing something that would embarrass you professionally or personally that's really on you. If you share it with even one person who may use it against you... I don't have much sympathy honestly. Now of course if you've been altered or have no idea things are being recorded, then yeah that's a huge invasion of privacy. The problem stems from the personal choice and entitlement that just because you did something you regret, you are protected from it ever coming back to you. Look at snapchat and all of this other stuff that makes it very easy to exploit yourself and others. Don't fucking do it if your mom would have a heart attack because you're only 19 years old and you need to be told you're a sexy girl. If you're an adult and make a poor choice those things can very easily stick with you. The internet doesn't forget things, it stores them forever. The overly sexualized hollywood culture and need to be validated is a huge part of this. Everyone thinks they are going to become a celebrity and live lavish lifestyles because some celebrities are just that, a prostitute with their own brand.

From the great 20th century poet, Andre Romelle Young:

"Girls be thirteen acting twenty-two. Guys be forty-four acting half their ages"

We need to raise the fucking bar of being a person, all around.

            end rant.

I agree that the people sending dirty pics are responsible, but sexting is part of intimate relationships in the 21st century. It's kind of like sharing a secret with your girlfriend/boyfriend that you never told anyone else, and then after you guys break up they tell everyone, or even worse, post it to the internet with your personal information, and make you pay to have it removed. Sexting is foolish, but scorned lovers who try to ruin someone's life because a relationship didn't work out should be put in front of a firing squad.

However, if the girlfriend cheated on you maybe there is some understandability for wanting revenge, but I bet half of the guys who put those pictures up are those passive aggressive "nice guys" who think that they can buy their way into a girl's pants with gifts and compliments then turn around and post to Facebook about how "all women are whores who only date assholes".
