My father spent 2 years in a Russian prison because he got caught helping families escape persecution in communist Romania in the mid-80s. He was like the Harriet Tubman of Romania. The village locals had to bring him food every day because the prison refused to feed him. He had to rely on others after so many relied on him.

He showed me the scars and shit. My dad doesn't have a soft personality. I can tell those days really messed with him. But he could play a mean game of ping pong.
