So you're comparing the miata to what e30? A bone stock m10 318? Look at spec e30s, and then compare them to spec miatas...

Don't get me wrong, miatas are fun, but they don't nearly compare to e30s. On or off the track.

Yes they do. My Miata feels about the same as my e30 did power wise, sure the e30 is a little faster, but be realistic, you don't buy either for speed. Miata handles better.

Plus e30 prices are raising, while Miatas can be had dirt cheap.

Don't get your pantys in a bunch because someone says a Miata makes a better track rat than an e30.

What motor was in your e30? And was your miata a 1.8 or 1.6? As for the handling... I'm not sold, but I've only been in five or so miatas.

                  Or compare SM to PRO3.

Your results may vary depending on where you are in the country. But then, when you make the jump from track day (bro) to spec or single model racing, the car is not as important versus the rest of the field/competition.

No sir, I'm comparing cost. I'm no expert by any means so I would never compare functionality. In my area there are so many miatas for sale versus e30 that the ideal choice was the miata. I'd rather track the more plentiful miata rather than destroy my e36 m3 or an e30. E30s in my area are almost non existent, it would be a shame to buy one, strip it and potentially wreck it. The cost of e30 are on the rise compared to miatas. Honestly in my area the cost of one decent e30 could yield two miatas. I paid $2800 for this miata including hard top, hard bar and everything. $2800 wouldn't buy me much of an e30. My love for e30s is another reason I chose not to use one as a track rat.

^That's good reasoning. You got a steal on that miata too, I'm sure it's going to be a fun car. I guess if you look at the price point of it, a miata would certainly make more sense.

That's a steal for 2,800. In Australia that would be listed for 12k and probably sell for 8.

What kind of lap times do spec Miata get compared to spec E30?

Comparing SE30 to SM, it depends on the track.

The SE30 has a little more brake and low end torque vs a SM. So we can ever so slightly outbrake them, and get a little bit more of a jump out of the corner, so you are talking maybe a second or two.

Like I said, it really depends on the track. They are both somewhat momentum cars, so carrying speed through the corner is paramount, but the M20 does give a little help if you have to scrub some speed mid corner for whatever reason.

That being said, SM will make up for it by bump drafting out of corners. It's something I think they teach on day 1 of your first SM race - Bump Drafting out of every corner.

I really considered this one while searching but it was slightly over budget but still a great deal even at asking price.
