so i've started to like nascar....

    flame suit on.

I've started watching it a bit more recently. My gf's dad used to run the equivalent to busch series in the PNW and owns a former winston (now nextel) cup car. her little bro races weekly around the left coast, and her dad knows a few of the nextel drivers. Apparently Greg Biffle used to come over before he made it to nextel pretty regularly and work in her dads shop (like 4k square feet - it is SICK).
Regardless - they know their nascar and the more time i've spent around them and nascar people the more i've grown to appreciate it. It is really the only racing i can watch on tv regularly, so i've learned more about it and enjoy it. I still think f1 and wtcc are the tits of it all, but i can't see that much of it around here, so i tend to loose interest.

I know it's not the most technologically advanced racing on the planet, but i'll be damned if it's not entertaining to watch whilst drinking some beers.

    anyway, flame on.

plus i'm going to see the balad of ricky bobby tonight - so i had to watch the busch race and drink key light - which made me want to start this thread.

    that is all.

It is good while drinking beer. Of course any sober person wouldn't enjoy it. I respect the drivers because I can't stand driving for more than an hour or so, much less at 200MHP for hours.

that's the dirty secret, despite 'racing elitist' opinions, stock car racing is damn entertaining, even more so in person

I can appreciate all forms of auto-racing, but in terms of pure entertainment value, nascar is low on the list.

The cars are plain boring to look at, even if they're going 200 mph... in an oval... for three hours... around... and around... and around...

In person its entertaining in two respects - the racing is decent to watch, and then there is the entertainment value of the crowd - especially at a Busch or Craftsman series race - more tattoos than teeth!

Seriously, get a pit pass to any of them and you'll walk away with a little different perspective on it. Do dumbass rednecks make up most of the following, yes. But that does not mean it is of no value.

I've attended one, and there's still nothing like a Porsche Supercup sprint race of a good SPEED TC/GT race. I know it's more than just running around in circles, still bores me.

actually BTCC and ETCC (whatever the euro version is) is probably my favorite motorsport, followed closely by bike racing then stock car. Pro sports car racing in the US and F1 are right up there with local autocrosses for me when it comes to spectating...

I went to see vintage racing at Miller motorsports today and one of the 20 minute races was Nascar. I was really shocked to see them but it was pretty fun. They did look a bit cumbersome on the road course though...

LOCK THIS THREAD ....F1 is just about to start

MichaelSCHMUCK and Alonso (two fastest drivers) BOTH got penalties during qualifying and are now being forced to start in 12th and 15th on the pole (respectively)!!! ...this should make for a VERY EXCITING RACE....with this thing we true racing entusiasts call PASSING

time at the track is time well spend - even watching. But honestly, I've seen better action from 12 year old's racing karts than a stock car event. (no - I'm not kidding - no I'm really not)
