I am planning on moving to NC in April and I have 3 cars to take with me plus a moving truck. My E70 is what the wife will be driving with the kids in and I'll be driving the moving truck. Now that leaves my E30 and E46 left. For anyone who has moved across multiple states, what would be your suggestion? I am thinking I should tow the E30 with the X5 and my E46 will be behind the moving truck. Any suggestions? I know I have plenty of time, but I would like to get some input or feedback.

thats probably as good a solution as anything. tow dollies are the cheapest way to get a car from point a to point b. especially if you are making the trip anyway. do you trust your wife to tow a vehicle behind your suv with the kids in it? what if she gets in a situation where she needs to back up? i don't know if i would be comfortable with my wife doing that kind of driving over 600 ish miles.
transporting the cars will probably cost about 500 bucks per car.sigpic

U haul rapes you if you take their trailers out of state it cost me 400 to use a dollie and travel from south dakota to Nebraska. But at around 1000 bucks a car it to ship via car shipping company trailering will still be best solution i feel.Comment

Wow. I would be better off buying one for that price and selling it afterwards.1989 325i - 2.7i, Holset H1C, 60lb injectors, whodwho MS-PNP.

If she needed to back up, I would probably take over at that point. Our plan is to do halfway one day and the other half the next day, at least that seems the least stressful way of doing it.thats probably as good a solution as anything. tow dollies are the cheapest way to get a car from point a to point b. especially if you are making the trip anyway. do you trust your wife to tow a vehicle behind your suv with the kids in it? what if she gets in a situation where she needs to back up? i don't know if i would be comfortable with my wife doing that kind of driving over 600 ish miles.

I moved from NJ to GA a few years back. I had 4 cars total when I made the move. 1 I drove down a few months early, and the others I towed 2 and drove 1. We had 4 eople driving various cars. Uhaul raped me, and do your reservations in person. I did them all online, and not 1 dealer had my "reserved" trucks/trailors"

this is an in state example, but a few months ago, i drove up to dallas to look at an e30. i reserved a dolly one way between there and houston(well over 200 miles). it was only 69.00 with tax. the car was crap so i canceled the reservation. judging by that, it surprises me that going out of state would cost so much.sigpic

You don't trust me enough to check out a car for you?this is an in state example, but a few months ago, i drove up to dallas to look at an e30. i reserved a dolly one way between there and houston(well over 200 miles). it was only 69.00 with tax. the car was crap so i canceled the reservation. judging by that, it surprises me that going out of state would cost so much.
Cheap = Bussing back home and driving each car. Unless you value your time, this is the cheapest.
When going out of state, Uhaul charges more for the dollies than the full car trailers. Reserve a trailer and the price should not exceed $150 if combined with a truck.
The x5 will not like the full trailer so you can erase that off the list of options.
What I did? I bought a tow bar from harbor freight for $50 bucks. Welded up some bolt in mounts for my e34 and e30. flat towed each. I even used that bar to flat tow my f150. When I was done with about 3 weeks of abusing it, I simply took it back to harbor freight for a full refund. The f150 bent the bar pretty good during an emergency stop.
All that being said, put the e30 behind the box truck with a full car trailer. Have a friend drive the e46. Done.
