Building a new (pc/mac) editing rig...

Hear is a bit of a tease...

yea that's right a dual core 3.8Ghz(overclocked to 4 or 4.2) with 2 gigs ram(4 gis is pointless)
All the goodies - dual layer DVD -
    10k system drive
    400 gig media drive
QuatroFX 1400 dual head video card to drive dual 19" tritron CRT monitors
    Sound card, ect...

should be quick - can't wait to fire it up
Oh - BTW - I'm also going to get a second system drive to try out the osx86 - oh yea - Mac on my intell...eat it up!!!!!!!!

Finally I can put FCP on my resume - and it won't cost me a dime...

(BTW - I'm a video editor - this is just my home system - I have about $40 in equipment at my work to back it up)

    God I love toys...

PS - I need a DIFF - please donate to the m30 blown diff thread...!

$40 eh. That's crazy. What would that buy? A 10 GB hard drive? ;)

Nice, and he probably meant $40k? Just found the osx86 project site, that looks cool. I use mac at work and PC at home.

Do you still like CRT more than LCD for video? Most of our art directors here have switched to the apple cinema displays now that they're SWOP cert.

I tried the beta OSX that ran on intel. It worked, but it was slow as shit.

System sounds good, but I wouldn't bother with overclocking. Also, 4GB of ram isn't pointless - especially in a unix-based operating system that knows how to use it. Hell, I have 2GB of RAM in my linux-based laptop and I can max it out on a daily basis. I'd also look into RAID1 or RAID5. Nice box!
