That would be ideal, but finding a good condition seta is pretty hard. They aren't exactly common. I want to find him a car that doesn't need body work or anything like that, at least nothing we can't do ourselves.

your really lucky man, my lil bro is all about the mk2 gti vr6 swapped ...FWD sucks and is no fun. he had one a whle ago but sold it for a 'Maro - this last week the slave cylinder BROKE OFF THE BELL HOUSING - i've never seen anything so odd break before, it was actually the tranmission bellhousing that broke! so i spent some time tryin to get a good-enough temporary weld this weekend. he's talkin about building another GTI ...turbo it, smoke the E30... i tell him to get an e30, i mean shit, i've got practically 2 cars worth of spare parts alone, it'd cost nothing to make a pretty trick setup with some of my spares, but he just doesn't dig the e30's

your lucky josh, i had an m10 318i as my first car and i still got in TONS of trouble. it didn't matter what i threw at it, it jst took it and asked for more. ...get him a car that demands respect and he won't abuse it as much if the damn thing scares the shit outta him to drive it. - key: plenty of track time for the youngen.

This doesn't seem to make sense to me because the eta has more torque and will break loose as easy of not easier than a b25 would. Oh well, the forst e30 I drove was a 325es and i loved it. I wish I had a brother.

This was technically my first car (also probably would've been my last if i ever used it :P), was never allowed to drive it but, we've since got rid of it. Mild 454 big block, 4 speed toploader, discs all around.

Learnt to drive in my 323i e30 with borked suspension, mum owns that one now. I've got my 325e now, much more grunt than the 323i. e30's are awesome cars to learn to drive in, best of luck to him :)

Getting purists panties in a knot since 2007. ;)
          E30 count = 6!

Everyone always throws out the numbers, but I have driven both b25's and b27's extensively, and the b25 is definately easier to lose control. Hondas can spin the tires, rpm is more effective than torque sometimes.

I think it really depends on the kid and when. Like if he already has learned how to drive a 325i would be fine. I mean its not like one day he turns 16 and ban off he goes. There’s the permit time period for you to have one on one time with him. The drivers ed. And then when you feel he’s good enough you let him get the license.

The first car I got was a 1990 325i which I fixed up and sold. So I never really drove it. My real first car is the one I have now a Porsche 944 Turbo. I’m not dead yet... that’s probably only because of all my boost leaks lol. Really though because I worked and saved up for my car I am very careful with it. I think that’s one of the most important things. You could buy him a Honda civic and if he doesn’t appreciate it he will still do stupid stuff. It all comes down to responsibility and appreciation. And remember pretty much every car goes fast enough to kill.

yeah, as a 16 y/o, take him to different sort of races... and let him race, other wise hes probably going to try it on the streets. Also, like someone said, he needs to respect his car. Me and my 318, i have NO respect for it, so it sees 6k rpms more often then a ricer. lol. On the other hand, when I drive my 69 datsun, i shift slow and soon and basically respect it. I think a nice 318i or 318iS would be a good starter car, fun to drive, but safe.
