I just had a long talk with my neighbor. She's a middle-aged woman who moved here from WA state last year to take a position at UAB. When I moved in, I noticed that she had a covered car parked next to her DD 635 CSi. The 635 is a truly nice car, and the covered car looked like a 3.0 CS coupe.
One day part of the cover was blown back, and the front of the car was unmistakeably a 3.0 CS. It also had the funky fender-top splitters that some of the coupes have.
Fast forward to today: She stops by and tells me all about the 635 while I'm working on my 325is, and then I ask her about the CS. She proceeds to tell me that she bought the car in 1984, and had it shipped from Germany. She then tells me that it's a REAL 3.0 CSL! Holy crap! I thought it was just a 3.0 with some CSL bits attached.
She really knows her stuff about cars, too. She knows that the CSL was acid-dipped and has aluminum door skins & other aluminum bits. She's also driven in a handful of HPDE's, and both of her cars are 5-speeds.
She's really bummed because she never gets to drive the CSL, so I invited her to the Barber PBOC event in November. I'm hoping she'll take me up on it. She offered to uncover the car and let me check it out when she gets a free weekend.
If it ever happens, I'll get some pics of that bad mofo and post them.
