Paris Hilton's pop debut saboteur Banksy has defended his CD prank, insisting the heiress is too stupid to understand his joke.
The guerrilla graffiti artist smuggled 500 doctored copies of Hilton's debut disc in to music stores around Britain.
The fake CDs see Hilton's sugary pop overwritten by new beats, while the album artwork has been altered so that Hilton's face is replaced by her dog and the track listing reads as a series of inane questions, including, "Why am I famous?"
Now the artist, whose identity is a closely guarded secret, has explained his motives through spokeswoman Jo Brooks.
She says, "He's saying you can be a celebrity, but you don't have to do music.
"I don't know what the reaction will be in America or whether she would even get it."
However, the spray-can renegade's stunt could backfire.
A spokesman for music giant HMV says, "The publicity might actually help her sell some more records."
Banksy's bogus CD marks the latest in a long line of high-profile stunts including illegally exhibiting his own work at the prestigious Tate Britain gallery in 2003 and risking snipers to paint part of Israel's security wall around the West Bank, last year (05).
