    GT Race Crash Video

This is so crazy I just had to share it:

Pretty old... The Ferrari driver got pretty badly burned but survived. He ended up winning a lawsuit against the track and/or the race sanctioning body because it took so damned long for emergecy crews to get to him and finally pull him out.

you sure about that? You always sign a waiver before you go racing, releasing the track or it's workers from any liabilities

A waiver isn't an ironclad guarantee of not being held liable. You can't legally sign away your rights. Signing a waiver just gives the waiver's owner a little bit more protection than if there were no waiver.

Which is why it was a pretty long court battle. It went in the driver's favor because it just took absurdly long for emergency crews to show up and pull him out. Here's a bit more information I found about it:

"Japanese racing star Tetsuya Ota was involved in a chain reaction collision during a GT championship race. Ota was trapped in his car for more than 50 seconds while exposed to 800-degree temperatures. There was no safety crew coming to the rescue as fellow drivers frantically extinguished the flames. The result ended with serious burns to Ota and a lawsuit against track promoters and sponsors."

                  and...

"He was a legendary racer of Ferrari's in Japan and this crash is at the Mount Fuji track. He was exposed to tempratures of over 300 degrees celsuis. The visor on his helmet had collapsed onto his face and eyes, so you can imagine that was pretty awful. Ota was exctracated from the car and made a full recovery. He assembled a group of renowned plastic surgeons to operate on his face."

Here's a longer version of the crash video. You can see him finally get pulled out of the wreckage and lie with smoke pouring out of his helmet. Pretty stomach churning...

As a competition driver, this is the type of thing I try not to think about when they tighten the 6-pts down. Man, I can't believe he lived!
"If your going to make a mistake, make it a 100mph."....."But only on the racetrack".....

no shit.... last thing to think about before it's time to go is that type of scenario.
