WELL.........what if you both agree on a price and you follow through with the funds but the seller is super slow to follow thru on his part, how long should you wait to raise hell?????

Josh brings up a good point. Its one thing to give a guy a day or two to get his shit together but entirely different to screw a working guy who really does have the money out of a part that they want. Seller should use their own good judgement. End of story.

You can be pissed at the "dibs" buyer, but as a seller I didn't do anything wrong.
I'm saying nothing more than what's been MY experience with it, and the kind of thing that's happened in the past.

I don't really mind the whole "dibs" thing, but some people on this board seem to have "dibs diarrhea", they see something and call dibs on it even though they have no money, and no way to pay for it- it's a PITA.
But I'm like most people I think, I treat folks the way I would like to be treated. If I want something, but I need to get my $$ in order or ask my wife/mom/girlfriend/boyfriend/dog, whatever- I make that 100% clear in my reply to the seller. None of this "Have cash, want your item ASAP" BS that usually turns into a 25% of asking price offer if I take S&H green stamps and can deliver the item overnight to Swaziland for free.
Let me restate what Erik posted- "The first person who has money for me gets the part". That doesn't mean I won't work with someone who has a reasonable request, but this "my Paypal is broken" or "I got scammed and they locked down my Paypal" or "I'm sooooo busy at school I havent' had time to mail your payment" crap just doesn't fly. If you can't get Paypal to work chances are you know that before claiming DIBS, so just go get a Money order and mail it! Yeah, it's not as convenient as Paypal, but it's NOT my problem that YOUR Paypal account is screwed up. Just don't try to BS me by saying you mailed payment 2 weeks ago when a letter can get across country in 3-5 days.
Bret.

the problem was
The first guy to reply did say "dibs" (this word should now be treated as profanity) We then agreed on the shipping price and I gave him my paypal info. After a few hours he PM'd about the paypal problems and said he would get back to me ASAP. At this point I'm stuck waiting....I can't say "you have 59 minutes or I will sell to someone else!" I was in fact treating the guy like I would want to be treated.
In the end it's like erik325i said, I can choose whomever I want. 100% of the time I want the guy who pays immediately......this time the guy who replied first was not that person.

Hell, if I'm selling an item, I could decide who to sell the item to soley by the size of their titties if I really wanted to. You can't enforce who the seller chooses to sell his product to.
As Bobby pointed out, not everyone is against the concept of "dibs", so trying to abolish the dib process is stupid.

good thread guys!!!! where are the rest of the "rules"???? i also like RCWELLS statement "I just treat people as I would want to be treated. "

Bullshit on all that. Dibs is good with me any day. If I'm selling something, and a guy says he will pay me by Friday or w/e, I'm good with that. After an agreed time though, it's fair game. I just treat people as I would want to be treated.
Bottom line: nothing wrong with DIBS and I'll accept a dib any day of the week! DIBS are good. Shit, I love me some dibs!

I personally think dibs is lame, but the seller can sell to whoever the hell they want. You miss out, deal with it.

I totally rocked that thread! Easy read too. Sucks though, there really is no way to enforce it on the seller's side. But I guess if it is done throug pms it doesn't really matter as long as the seller is responsible in posting the status of the products.

I agree. Dibs is lame, but ultimately we cannot enforce who sells what to who. Most sellers are going to take cash ASAP unless they are doing someone a favor by holding it while they get paid or fix their paypal.
