It's definitely possible for a boat covered in ice to sink. Confirmed by my roommate who has an M.S. in fluid and thermo engineering. But IF AND ONLY IF the water begins to leak in to the boat. If the boat were completely water-tight, then it would float no matter how much ice was on it. But that much ice is bound to make the boat sit lower in the water. If it begins to fill with water, the weight of the steel and aluminum boat will overpower the buoyancy force of the ice and the whole thing will sink.

Semi-planing hulls like the one that yacht has do not have big enough keels to lean over onto, plus the water isn't deep enough to make the boat lean.

The sailboat draws more, so it is leaning.

          GOOD POINT!!!

          BUT...

What about all the boats in the background? They appear to be floating...

They are farther off land in deeper water. They are also much smaller boats than the ice one.

The sailboats in the background are listing as well, just not to as great an extent.

Don't confuse density and buoyancy with weight.

Yes, exactly. That's why you can push an ice cube to the bottem of your glass.

                It is.

Boats are not "floaty things" - I suggest renting "Titanic" for further research (pulse you get to see Kate Winslet boobies)

Would be a great sig quote. Even though it's true, it just sounds amusing.

I was refering to the weight of the ice, lowering the boat enough in the water to take on water and then sink.
