OK, yeah, the SnapOn Air Hammer is a rockin' monster...no doubt. My old FAR25 was a beast but my new one sucks...makes me wonder about the metallurgy...also makes me wonder what will happen if I buy new Air Tools form StrapOn. Everything them make that I use keeps getting worse.

I promise you will like the ChannelLock crimpers better. Teeth on BOTH sides of the crimp, far better feel. Wider crimp area, not so prone to breaking wire as the Kliens. I also like "Idea" No. 29 crimpers, the SnapOn ones are OK (but stiff as hell for the first couple of weeks) but I universally detest ratcheting crimpers. Just my opinion of course...unless you are my employee, then it is a fucking LAW, and will be obeyed.

I'm no professional, but my personal preference is:

12 point combination wrenches, 6 point sockets with a high tooth count rathchet for small degree turns.

seems to be a lot of internet buzz over toptul stuff if you're looking for an alternative nice brand. they're on ebay a lot.

I'm addicted to gearwrench, might not be the nicest tools around, but surprisingly I haven't broke one yet and I'm mighty rough on my tools. Come to think of it, all my s-k (makers of gearwrench) stuff has held up pretty well

Gearwrench is made by K-D Tools / Armstrong (not S-K), which is a division of Danaher. Good tools.

          The hard way.

Both 6 and 12 are good to have. At the first sign of rounding off a bolt head I put the 6 point on it. Snap-On (pricey) and Craftsman are guaranteed forever.
If it breaks you just go get a new one. Even if you used that long handled screwdriver as a chisel. Peek into the service department and in the pits of the high dollar teams. See what the professionals use.

Buy the Blue Point Combo Ratcheting Wreches. $200 gets you a full set of 12 (I think). Mine got stolen out of my g/fs car and I am buying another set. They are the only set of wrenches you will need. Slim heads and every option about them is so nice.

If I am not mistaken dosent Danaher make craftsman tools also? Guy down at the fastenall store (a danaher owned compony) told me that. ??????
I asked because fastenall sells crapsman too.

12-point combos are really all the amateur mechanic needs. You can't go wrong with Snap-On, Matco, or Mac, at least for wrenches.

Danaher owns Matco and Fluke, among many other brands.

I'm happy with my buy-when-on-sale Mastercraft tools. Lifetime warranty, rarely break anything under normal use. A lot of the big rig places use them around here, and I used my set for 4 months of abuse. Never had a problem with any of it.

BTW, 12 point, 6 point AND ratchet head FTW. Although I buy my ratchet head wrenches from Husky, they have all E30 sizes and are lifetime aswell. Swivel head FTW.

                        Keep it slideways!!

Yes, Danaher does make Crapsman wrenches, ratchets, and sockets.

I have yet to have a single Craftsman tool crap out on me in 5 years of wrenching on cars. It drives me nuts that just because a few people have bad experiences with a certain brand of something, they shit talk it forever. Some of us can't afford to drop $260 on a set of Snap-On wrenches, and Craftsman tools are very high quality, and have the same lifetime warranty as Snap-On.

I've got some good channellocks too, downside is that many of them are developing surface rust. I'm not the best with my tools, and I try to wipe them down before they go back in the chest, but c'mon my pliers shouldn't rust if they've always been kept inside. Good functional tools though.

I'm a fan of klein tools for all things electrical, I will say that they are much less cool about the warranty though. If it looks like you used your pretty screwdriver for a chisel or prybar they won't warrant it.
