cliffnotes: i am annoyed by my friend who buys a $300 and wants help fixing it but doesn't want to spend any money to do so
friend buys a 86 4000 quattro for $300... because it is such a deal. I look at him like he is crazy and into masochism. Why the hell would anyone want an AUDI that old... anyway,
He replaced the spark plugs when he got it, and then used some fuel injector cleaner and all is going fine.
Then he accidently fills up with regular instead of premium and sometime there after, it won't rev past 3K while driving.
I ask him if he has checked the spark plugs, and he replies,
"Nah they are new man! I bought the sweet Bosch 4+"
"New since you got the car, or since the gas accident"
"I got them just after the car"
"Well, you need to check and probably replace them"
"Dude, they are $6 bucks each! that's like... ... $30 bucks, I could buy more hookah stuff with that!! and I'm broke."
continues on... he is completely incapable of using any sort of intelligence to find the first resources on audis, or search well on them. I put in a good search and find the exact information I need on the same forum he was trying to use and got nothing.
I advise him that he should probably replace the Manifold Pressure Sensor since that makes sense for the issue he is having and it's only $115.
He doesn't want to replace it if it is not bad.
He also doesn't want to do the fuel filter.
Nor anything else that could be the problem and a good maintence item regardless.
And he doesn't have motronic 1.3 which would tell him what was the issue at hand  I swear my next car will be a 96+ just for the ease of OBD-II diagonistics.
So he is going in to the dealer, going to have them look at this piece of shit... which two doors cannot be opened from inside and one cannot be opened from the outside, and have them guess at the problem, but not pay to replace anything that isn't the problem.
and the real catcher is... he wants his parents to pay for a PAINT JOB for his birthday/christmas.
