On CBS 5 one of the SF bay area tv stations they quoted some numbers from consumer reports on cars. I guess the EPA is going to change how they measure the numbers, right now they don't test the cars with a/c on, or in cold weather. I figured people should know that those things give you worse mileage. should they do the tests all up hill too? maybe with 4 passengers and 200lbs of luggage, with the a/c on?
----------------------epa----------consumer reports
Chevy impala--------- 26----------16
Dodge stratus---------22----------14
chevy trailblazer-------15 ----------9
prius ------------------60----------35
civic hybrid------------50----------26
where are they getting these numbers. gas mileage #'s on a car SHOULD be the best you can get, and if you don't get those, you are DEE DEE DEE. Thankfully one smart guy they interviewed responded "I guess i will need to drive better" after being told his Escape hybrid would get 15% less than 31mpg rated.
my jeep was rated 13/17, i average 15 but get 20mpg on the freeway if i drive like a law abiding citizen.
