A lot of the whisky experience is based on scent. A tulip-shaped glass really keeps the scents in as opposed to a lowball glass.

My favorite whisky is still Oban 14 year. I'm trying to familiarize myself with Islays right now.

Hennessey and Coke is a waste of alcohol. VS is drinkable neat, and VSOP is quite nice enjoyed neat.

The Balvenie Portwood 21 year (1989) > all other scotches FYI. Too bad fuckers realized that and jacked the price up to $150 a bottle. Thankfully I still have two bottles left.

It doesnt matter if he puts it in a lowball if he is putting ice in it. Ice is there to dull the senses until its tolerable. Its about the worst thing you can do to GOOD scotch. You also dont wanna keep the aroma in the glass on a good scotch. They will have plenty.

I'll use either glass, I rest it so it doesnt matter where it lands on the tongue. Big thing is the glass is really clean (minerals in tap water fuck up scotch royally). Then put a few drops of CLEAN (re: bottled/unfortified) water in the scotch just to break the surface tension. If its a good scotch you should be able to smell it 10 feet away in less than a minute.

As for Vodka, Belvedere I guess. Stoli is cool just because Pepsi was trading one bottle of Pepsi for a bottle of Stoli back in the day.

I cant get into other fortified wines. I just havent found one I enjoy yet.

Man, I typed a comment about the ice first, but in editing my post somehow it got deleted. Go figure! I usually drink it neat.

You don't want a big honking cognac glass with a 2" opening on a 4" base, but you want some preservation of aroma.

Everyone will have a favorite whisky, favorite region, or favorite characteristic. Some people like peat. Some people like phenol. Different strokes. I figure I'll try as many as possible.

the reason for the 1 ice cube is from the george and dragon where i used to spend a lot of time and $ drinking. the glenmorange 18 sherry cask was top shelve so i had a big fucking spot on it, making it just more than room temp. one cube seemed to bring it down, and 1 cube is no worse than adding water to scotch :roll: . anywhere else i go no spot no prob, including at home (why because i am old). i am suprised that no one has mentioned cordoh very good 10 year old single malt for around $35-40 a bottle. what about yeskabaugh (sp)? no one ever tried that? woodford reserve?? (although that is burbon...and smooth like sipping a coke, i might add!!)
