And one of the first replies is (surprise, surprise) basically stating "hey can you sell it to me cheaper, i was thinking $200, maybe a bit more". I wrote him back saying, no $300 is a fair price, so pony up or no board.

If you said $300 in the ad, then it's a given he's going to make an offer. Heck, I do that all the time. I got a $210 Porter-Cable plunge router for $150 yesterday, all I did was ask if there was a better price. It was marked down to $188, but it's free to ask. That was at Lowe's BTW. I ALWAYS haggle at stores, and normally I at least get the tax tossed in - that's ~8% here. It only works if it's a $150+ item, I don't even try if it's less than that, or an 'in demand' item.

Can't blame the guy for trying, I would have too.
