Check out the brazilian experience with ethanol, they run their whole country on that.
I've driven ethanol powered cars there, the mileage is about 10 to 20% less, but they run great with minor timing adjustment.
There is a catch though, exhaust stinks and rusts the pipes and muffler. :(
Stainless steel exhaust is mandatory, due to high moisture content in exhaust gas.;)Comment
