    So I'm going to Germany...

On Thursday (March 1) I am leaving America for the next five months. I will be going to school in Germany for the upcoming semester.

I know there are a few of you on this board that are in Germany now. If you have any tips, or things that I "must see" while I am there, I would love to hear about them.

Maybe I can even meet a few of you. At the very least, I plan on purchasing a set of mikeedler smoked elips. and then taking them back in my suitcase to avoid paying the Germany to US shipping charges. I'm leaving extra space for them in my luggage, and yes, I know that I have a problem.

Haha, when I went to Germany last summer, the two of us filled 4 suitcases full of parts. I used my clothes as packing material to protect the parts...

Oh that doesnt beat me... I walked in the airport with an euro gauge cluster in a plastic bag (I was backpacking for 30 days and my backpack was beyond full to begin with). I got called back to the security booth twice for a "random" scanning. Being "randomly selected" twice in the same day was comical.

You meant you're making room in your luggage for two sets of euro ellips right?

                  Ok thanks ;-)

Just ship it thru DHL or German postal, or a R3V military dude.

Yeah, I didn't think about a R3V military dude, that would work out well.

Andy, I'm putting my car into storage tonight and I'll be home all day tomorrow packing. You can stop in if you want or something. I'll give you a call.

eurostyle, I can probably stuff some ellips in my shoes for you ;) Frankie's new GTI is quite nice. I just saw it when I hung out with him today.

I'm afraid renting a car to take around the ring is probably going to be a bit too expensive for me, but I don't want to play into the "poor college student" stereotype. I'll put aside some of the money I'm taking over there though and see if I have enough at the end of the trip

i heard that rental agencies park at the ring and watch for their cars. if they see you on it they take the car back and ban you from renting from them. i also heard though that there are rental cars available AT the ring that are somewhat tuned and ok to abuse.

(not first person knowledge, heard it from some family friends that travel there twice a year)

ive seen plenty of our americans from the Spang area as well as Ramstein rent cars from Sixt or Hertz, drive the 120KM up to the track, beat the crap out of a e90 320i and then bring them back. just dont be stupid with it. there are other options. say the Ring Taxi, but you didnt reserve a seat 1 year out in advance so thats gonna be a no go, oh the 300 euro ride in the ZAKSPEED Viper? thats always an option, but since its not the season for Tourist Driving they wont be there with the Viper.... uh.. yea so rental car and a good weather day (never in germany) will get you lots of fun if the track isnt rented out by Porsche, BMW or Merc or someone else for private testing of their cars. Sorry to be the one to deliver the bumming news
