Any doctors or medical people here? quick ?

Looking for somebody with some medical background to see if they can lead me in the right direction.

Symptoms: Past few days, I'd even say weeks my left arm(elbow) and hand have been kinda tingly/numb and weird feeling. Happens mainly in the evening after class. I'm not really doing anything strenuous, nor have I in that time period or before.

I've done some reading and I've stumbled across a few medications that can cause this, as well as Diabetes. Now I am not on any meds nor have I been in the past year, and I don't really think I qualify for having diabetes. Hell, i don't even know how you get diabetes. I always associated it with over-weight people who don't do anything... but i would say I am a some-what active person and not too terribly overweight. I am a smoker tho, which may have some input to this.

I know a few guys are RN's and whatnot, but not sure about the rest of you. Or if any of you are diabetic. I'm looking at my insurance policies to see if I can get to a Dr. relatively inexpensive...

    TIA.

i suppose, but I've had that before, and it didn't last this long. usually i could just move around and whatnot and it would go away. what other options for getting it taken care of are there?

exactly, youre sleeping funny, change your position.

adult onset diabetes is incredibly rare in a young average weight person. and your insulin sensitivity would target your ability to be conscious before you'd get a tingly arm.

but yes, re the heart attack, you could have a severly blocked artery. but that's an older person concern unless you have inherited hyperlipidemia, are a super clotter, or you have a valvular issue which you would of found out as a kid more than likely. or you do amphetamines or meth, which cause the same myocardial death and heart remodeling as someone with congestive heart failure.

i'm not a doctor, go to one.

sweet, im leaning more towards a pinched nerve....i don't really know how i sleep, its different every night. what kinda of remedies are there for a pinched nerve?

after reading more on pinched nerves, it sounds like the ulnar nerve in my elbow, with the numbness in the 4th and 5th digit. looks like a call to the Dr. is in order...

              thanks for the help!

It could be progressive dehydration. Caffinated drinks can cause you to become dehydrated amongst other things (like not drinking water while working in cold dry weather).

I once went to the emergency room because I had numbness and tingly feelings in both hands and numbness in my lips and tongue. 9 hours later the only thing that they could determine was that I had a high level of keytones in my urine. They determined that I was dehydrated and they treated me with 2 IV bottles on me to rehydrate me before they would allow me to leave. Once I got back home I felt fine.

What is the worst injury you've ever had that made you go to the doctor?

LOL! I am starting to rub off on you with my "What was your..." threads.

I think the ONLY time I ever went to the doctor for an injury was when I put a screwdriver completely through my hand. I was doing electrical work and I was attempting to open up one of those knock-out holes on the back of a plastic electrical box. The screwdriver was small and very sharp and as I was poking through the box, I was holding it in my other hand. The knock-out plug broke free and the the screwdriver went through my hand and came out the other side. It was like shish-kabob with my hand the the electrical box on the screw driver.

I gasped in shock.. well actually I yelled in horror.. well truthfully I screamed like a little bitch as I ran in circles. I pulled it out and opened and closed my hand a few times and realized that there wasn't that much bleeding. So I grabbed a couple of napkins, wrapped up my hand and secured it with electrical tape and finished what I was working on. The hole seemed to close up considerably on both sides by the end of the day so I wasn't that concerned. Later that day I told my boss what had happened and that I would be going to the doctor in the morning.

The doc figured that I stabbed myself between the muscles because there was no sign of weakness or muscular damage and he had the nurse administer a teatnus shot. Again.. I screamed like a little bitch and I had to lay on the table for a few minutes to regain my composure.

Oh.. and as for paper cuts.. its funny that you mention that. I was opening up one of those thick brown envelopes the other day with my finger and the edge of the flap sliced right down between my index and middle finger. It cut me all the way down to the last layer of skin and it STUNG really bad! I probably would have gone to the ER if I knew that I wouldn't be waiting 9 hours for treatment.
