once you retire you should have to take a driving exam yearly or at least a vision test maybe.

My dad retired at 50. Some people retire in their 20s. So that doesn't quite work.

I think the POLICE should pull over idiots who drive like they're 100 and ticket them, the punishment being that they've got to go for a drivers' test. If they flunk it, their license is revoked.

There's an OLD lady in my town that drives a PRISTINE lachsilber 325iS, it's an 89 or so...anywho, she doesn't drive it that slowly...I was following her through the main drag in town doing about 65 (it's a 40). I want to get my hands on that car soooo bad. The mechanic at the local autoshop says it's only got 45,000 miles on it.

By comparison, I saw a ratty Bronzit 325iS (like an 87 or so) bumbling along on the interstate doing 55 with its' foglights off.
A young kid was driving it.

Honestly, people like that are a danger to people like me, who typically travel at 85-90.

I once worked pumping gas and came across and scary example of elderly driver. First of all I had to take her card into the store for her cause she couldn't make the trip from her van to the store. She was shaking (stroke?), could barely speak and I noticed she had a trucker ball on her steering wheel cause she couldn't handle using both hands on the wheel. The worst part was when I handed her the receipt to sign. She just scribbled a blob on the paper unable to sign her own signature. Elderly testing needs to be done. We must get stroke lady off the road.

I think it should be as soon as you have a stroke, heart attack, hip surgery, need an oxygen tank or something like that, then you should be required to do yearly driving tests. my grandparents are in their 70s and are both fine drivers, but they are very healthy people, neither of them have had any major medical problems.

I'm in line with this. Or when they issue you a Handicap tag that hangs from your mirror. That tag is so grossly abused it's stupid.

My grandfather drove till he was 95 and scared me from the first time I got in the car with him till the last time. He would have kept driving but we had the state revolk his driving privledges and the estate sold his wheels. He had alzheimer's, it was sad.

p.s. what really pisses me off is people with the handicapped tag or license plates driving like maniacs. That pisses me off to no end.

For some reason 99.9% of the cars I see with handicap plates or placards drive like their handicap involves use of the right foot. They're always 10 below the limit and have to slow down another 10mph any time the road strays from 100% laser straight.

God forbid you arrive at a 4-way stop after they do. They'll stare at you for the 20 seconds it takes for you to reach the stop sign, wait until you've been at a stop for a solid 4-5 seconds, and then right when you decide to go yourself they swivel their heads forward and hit the gas. They typically have no idea that you had even started to move, let alone that you had to spike the brakes to keep from hitting them.

Alternately if they're at a stop sign but your direction has no stop, they usually look left, look right, stare right at you, then pull out anyway. When you slam on the brakes and hit the horm they look back at you and come to a stop right in the ^%&@ing middle of your lane. When you come to a stop 3 feet from their door, horn blaring they give you a blank stare for a few seconds, they keep going as if nothing ever happened and they had just stopped to look at a pretty sunset.

Of course in my town most handicap placards/plates are probably issued for alzheimer's or severe palsy...

as long as this reject has dug up a 3 yo thread lets make use of it. here is my sisters hair salon after a dried up hag drove her audi wagon 70 feet thru the salon taking the receptionist and her desk with and my brother in law all the way to the back of the salon and into a wall while he was on the hood. hes got a perma fucked back injury and the receptionist is all scarred up in the face. she was a very cute girl before the accident

That sucks, sorry to hear that, Blunt. Id be pissed if me, or any of my loved ones, had to endure the emotional damage of being plowed into by some old hag, and having their face scarred.

When I was on a CHP ride-along, there was some old lady we had to revoke a license from. She was driving on the wrong side of the road, and had a couple cars swerve to miss, then when she finally came back from lala land, she drove off into a small drainage type ditch, taking out about 5 mailboxes on the way. The old lady didnt remember shit when we asked what happened, she couldnt even remember where she was coming from.

I think after 60 there needs to be an annual DRIVING and visual test.
