To be honest, with the ramp and elephant one, its asked if the object would move after coming to rest...I understand what they mean, but for how its worded, I would easily argue NO, since if its stated that the object is a t rest, then obviously it is not moving, nor will it move, since it is at rest. I dunno about you, but I used to argue a lot with my teachers, and I look at this and laugh, since if you state something is at rest, then its not moving....because if it was not at rest, then it would be a false statement, thus voiding the whole question since there is a false statement there :)

Yeah, I have way too much time on my hands!

Sorry, geek gene taking over, cannot control, must answer.....The block will come to rest for an infinitesimal amount of time before going back up the ramp, just like a pendulum pauses at the end of it's swing.

Exactly, howver, for how the question is worded, its like asking, your car is parked in the driveway. How long will it take to get to point B......No time, since if your car is parked it isnt' moving....and thus not going anywhere. And if it was moving then the first statement is false, and how can you solve a question with false facts?

LOL, someone out there please understand my point of arguement...Its like a lawyer arguing, but its perfectly true..

The problem is you misread this question. It reads "the object is released from rest." This means that it will no longer be at rest. Imagine holding a baseball in your hand. It is at rest (assuming you are not shaking, etc). If you let go it will not longer be at rest becasue it has been RELEASED from rest and will be falling due to gravity just like the object in the problem. You may be right in how some questions are written, but if the elephant was not in the way this question would no be 0.

I know the question would not be zero, and I did not misread it. Look halfway down..it states that the object came to rest. I know the answer, and what is being asked, I am just arguing the wording and thereby moving to dismiss the whole question on questionable grounds :) HAHA, and thank you, I think I would make an excellant lawyer...but I am more content as a business owner

I had a friend in hs who was in precalc, and he got it down between two choices on every question, and flipped a coin on the entire final by doing this on a multiple choice final and ended up by chance w/ 100% was rediculous

By the time I was in the 2nd grade, the family car had broken down so often that I was more knowledgeable about cars than I was about school subjects. So when we were given a vocabulary word assignment I would have answers that were alternative to what the teacher was looking for..

Like the word, "muffler" indicates a clothing item that women put their hands in to stay warm in lieu of using gloves- But of course, my definition was, "The part of the car that keeps it from being loud."

And then in another assignment, the word was "broad" meaning wide or extensive. My definition was, "Stupid woman who can't drive" which I got from my dad yelling at bad drivers on the road.

And then my teacher's favorite was "park" indicating a recreational area however my definition was, "What you do with the car when you are finished driving."

Now that I look back on this, I think that I never got any of these assignments back because the teacher would probably take it around to the other teachers and laugh about it.
